I have been looking into getting a Wii now for a while, and have decided to fork out for one. I will be buying a brand new model (so I presume it will either be a D2C / D2C2 model), and I am trying to decide which mod chip to get for it. I have previously chipped my PS2, and I own a PSP which I have flashed with CFW, so I am no stranger to modding / flashing my consoles, however the Wii is new to me!!).
So far I can gather that the chips which are compatible with the D2C2 are Wasabi and the D2Pro?? (If there are any others please let me know!) and I was thinking of going for the Wiiclip option to ensure that it is easily reversible. I understand they are more prone to "falling off" the IC, and a lot of people prefer to go for the soldered option.
What I was trying to figure out, is what different benefits each modchip gives. Ideally I would like the following :-
1) Update via DVD (so I don't need more extra kit)
2) Option to play imports (I will have a PAL Wii)
3) Option to play GC games / Wii games via the Gecko memory card option.
4) Ability to roll back from a brick / semi > working Wii (because at some point with all the tinkering / learning I will probably f**k up! ;o)
Now with the imports option, a friend told me some chips patch the game on the fly, and some do it differently. I can't for the life of me figure out which mod chips do what?!
So now you can see why I am kinda sliding for the Wasabi / Argon / D2Pro. If someone could offer a little helping guidance for me to finalise my decision by either offering sound advice / previous experiences of either mod chips, then I would be extremely grateful!!
