Hello all. I have a gc2-d2c wii. Bought it chipped in March 2008. I have oopened it up and it is 9 pin soldered and the chip is a Actel ProAsic3....(I think this is a wasebi clone or a D2sun type chip...not sure??). Anyway, downloaded SMG of ftp and that plays great (did not ask for update...may have been brickblocked ver??). Problem is more recently as wii fit (original and backup) and wii love golf(original) are forcing me to update....I presume this is a bad idea, but how do i play these and future games. How do i update the Firmware??? So need your help as children and wife need to be kept happy!
Hi all, been doing some researh, and i believe I may in fact have a Argon (or Clone) mod chip....same question, how do I update, and/or is it safe to update off wii fit? Thanks
Well, as I've said many times, NO UPDATES CAN DETECT MODCHIPS. Your wii is at firmware level 3.1 which I believe is the firmware on SMG, which is why it didn't ask to update.
Wii Fit and other recent games include firmware 3.2. Trying to play any of those games will ask to update. So long as the games are from the same region as your wii, you can update just fine. No worries at all.
Thanks for input so far. like you say, I wont be playing anything from other regions. I have just read so much about update 3.3 and being no way to go back. So,to clarify, I have Argon (or clone), and if I update I wont have a problem playing all my PAL backups as well as originals...
Hi. In answer to your question there is 13 wires soldered to it. This image is pretty much what it looks like (last sequence of serial numbers are ZA740175 instead of what is shown)

You have an ARGON and region override is not enabled. If it was you would have 4 extra wires making the install 17 not 13.
So if you want to play Imports you will need to region patch them with a program. Your best bet is to stick with games the same region as your system.
There is really no way to see what firmware you have on the ARGON. The only way to make sure you have the latest firmware is updating it with the Jtag programmer to 1.8 version.
As for Wii firmware update all versions work perfectly fine with ARGON even 3.3 firmware.
Hey larrylje....Really appreciate your comments on this thread and many other threads . Have followed your advice and have updated no problem. I have enjoyed getting to know my wii, and whats inside....Wii love golf and wii fit working perfectly.
Many,many thanks
