I have an Xbox 360 Premium with a Hitachi 79FK drive. As far as i know to play backups I'm going to need to flash the firmware. In fact the process appears to be:

1. Purchase Infectus or Maximus passkey
2. Open up the DVD player and remove the epoxy from a key location
3. Solder the provided passkey to the area
4. Purchase and install a "specific" SATA PCI card for my WinXP pc
5. Connect via SATA the DVD player to the PC and hope WinXP picks up the dvd drive.
6. Use Maximus software to read and reflash the drive with an older v78 firmware

That's pretty much what i gather. Its a long process with some variables. I came across NME 360 v2.0 which appears to involve ONLY steps #2 and #3. Nothing more. Oh there is the additional step of having to run the software backup thru its provided Associator or something to make the backup image NME compatible but that is it.

Now besides NME 2.0 being approx 2x the price of Maximus 79 Passkey ($55 vs $29) why wouldn't i purchase the NME solution. To me it seems like it would be more secure since i'm not modifying the original firmware (it remains v79FK) PLUS i dont have to purchase or go thru the hassles of steps #4 thru #6.

Exactly WHY is NME 360 2.0 a bad purchase for a Hitachi 79FK drive. Does the unit NOT ACTUALLY WORK / A SCAM? Again to me i see less steps and more secure since the original firmware is in tact. I'm not an electronics expert so i want a quick and WORKING solution -- i have no love afair with the inner do-dats only the results of playing my games.

Quickest way in my opinion is to sell that thing and buy one with an easily flashable dvd rom drive.
