You want a low current 555. If you plan on getting it at Radio Shack, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index....rentPage=search . Or if you order it online, just make sure it's the low current model. I've done a bunch of them.

I tried that tut awhile back. I had no luck getting the mod to work. I used one with less work needed.
