6 more studios join PSN Movies

At this week's E3 event, Sony has confirmed that 6 new studios have joined Sony Pictures as the foundations of the new PSN Movies service.
Fox Film, MGM, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Turner and Funimation have all joined up, revealed Sony's Jack Tretton.

The download service has been up since last night. All these studios are already participating in the program.

I'm assuming this is US only, since I don't have anything new in the PS Store (Canada). Oh well, wasn't too excited about the feature anyways.

Its conveniant if you dont wanna go out and rent/buy something outright.. but its a bit rediculous when you realize that EVERYTHING on the store is available via torrent and can be streamed to the PS3 for free.... As much as it appeals to me, I think that it would be more appealing if they were releasing films BEFORE they hit DVD/Blu-Ray .. then I may not have another option to obtain the film.
I'm just waiting for someone to hack the DRM on the films.. I mean, if you can get them to your PSP.. then you can more than likely view that file on your PC via a USB connection.
.. I've started a forum thread on this in the console > PS3 section of this site. I'm curious to see how this will develop.

We are on the same store. At the top of the store there is a game and video tab. I overlooked at first also.

$2.95 for a HD rental? What if someone wants to catch up on a series like Lost? That's over $70....just for a single viewing? May as well buy the whole series.

Thats true i didn't do the math but im sure they will have some specials.But they are offering some movies in HD that haven't made it to Blu-Ray yet like Beowulf.

I hope they have deals, otherwise TV shows are just a waste of $$$. I just checked The Family Guy. $1.99/episode. That's 26 episodes for season 4. I can buy it on Amazon for $40, or used on Amazon for less than $20. I don't see how practical TV rentals really are. Over time, I would feel pretty stupid realizing how much I paid to rent my favorite TV series for only 1 viewing. Movie rentals, I can see the convenience, but how does $5.99/download save you when you can pay a solid Netflix monthly fee and get whatever you want. I can rent 3 movies from PSN for almost the same price as a monthly Netflix subscription. Even if Netflix throttles me, it's still a better deal.
Just my opinion, but they should quit trying to dip their hands in every pot. Leave the movie rentals to the rental stores. They probably have all of these charts with complex equations that somehow predict maximum profits, and streaming video is the next big thing, right? Why not just give customers what they want from a video game system? High quality games. Make the gaming experience more enjoyable. Be happy with the fact that they own the rights to the only HD media player.
I'm a PS3 owner and I really wanted to see the silver lining in this article.

I agree. I've been downloading TV shows online via P2P due to the lack of a video download service. I pay for cable... I have a DVR... I could record hundreds of shows and keep them forever. I like to have them available from my XMB... I just don't know why I'm going to pay 2 bucks for a video I could record FREE for the cable price I'm already paying... If I download them what is the difference???
I like the convenience... but other than that they need to offer things I can't get anywhere else before I'm going to buy videos like mad.

Nope, still no video tab for Canada. I found out that it's actually IP locked. The only way to use it is by running a proxy through my PS3, but that's too much trouble for what it's worth.

I myself would only use it occasionally for an HD rental when I am to lazy to go to Blockbuster. I don't even bother with SD anymore...
