Hello,

I have 3 major things that I use n my room.
-Xbox 360
-A surround sound system of 70W
-19 inch Asus monitor.

The problem is I'm getting surges or power fluctuations and I know this because my screen flashes on and off and my speakers pop. Now I have looked around and I have seen a lot of stories about surge protectors being bad for the 360 and all that. I don't know what to do. Personally I think the stories are bullshit and I intend on getting a surge protector. I live in Australia and I am not sure which type of surge protector I should get like what requirements should it have, I would like to keep it under $100. Any advice and tips would be gretaly appreciated

Thank you

Max

any surge protector will do man, and no its not gonna blow your stuff up unless you get the cheapest one you can find and you have horrible luck. just get a good a/v surge protector and you will be good to go.

kk Thanks man

But its said that with the 360's power brick it already has surge protectors inside it and that if you plug into another one it can have sags and stuff and screw your 360 up. Do surge protectors protect against sags ?

Thanks

Max

Hey,

Bad news. I got a good surge protector $90 even had warranty for the things plugged in. Then I was playing speakers still popped occasionally then my sis goes to use the microwave POP screen turns on and off POP again screen turns off and on again. I think that its sagging. So it looks like I have to go buy a UPS. I honestly don't know what to do. I'm really pissed off if I buy the UPS and it happens again I'm going to rip it all out and throw it outside. Any tips or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you

wow, it sounds like the wiring in your house is really screwed up. I don't know anything about australian power layouts but it's probably old wiring that's your problem. You should hire an electrician to come look at it before it shorts and starts a fire. Could be a early warning you never know. I know that it's normal to have the microwave cause some dimming and interference but if it dips so bad that things shut off it's not a good sign.

*sigh* I'm having a electrician coming in to look at the socket and see how much juice its getting and see if he can fix anything. My friend just told me that the VGA cable he gave me has caused him problems with other LCD monitors in the past so that might be the problem. But my other friend has the exact same monitor and a power wave vga cable like mine and he has no probs.

well is it your screen shutting off, or a couple of appliances? if it is just the screen try switching vga cable. if not i would agree with above. you need to see an electriction ASAP.

Well I took the monitor back and they tested it and it was fine and how would the VGA cable explain popping on the speakers ?
