I purchased the D2PRO9, wii-clip, triwing and d2prog from canadamods.ca and everything went relatively well (I received a philips instead of a triwing but they're sending me one no charge so I can't complain) but I have a question.

I know the d2prog is the recommended way to update your chip which is why I bought it, and I have already flashed the chip with the latest firmware using the programmer.

my question is, if I leave the IDE cable connected to the chip and leave the other end sticking out of my wii, is it possible to update the firmware later on without disassembling my wii?

I was just wondering if erasing/updating the firmware on the d2pro9 while still connected to the wii might affect the data on the actual wii and harm the wii. I'm not sure if the IDe connector protects itself from sending signals to the wii but I don't think that is possible (IDE connected to d2pro9 and the d2pro9 is connected to the wii).

Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyody knows if it is safe and if they have done it before. I assumed that the ribbon cable was so long on purpose to be able to do this, but I'm not sure.

ahaha awesome. Is going through the USB the best way? One of my usb ports is already in use so I want to try to keep the other free if possible (I use a keyboard). maybe through one of the gamecube slots? I only have one memory card. I haven't opened up my system yet (still waiting on that triwing) so I don't know if maybe it's even possible to have it fed through the seem, or would that be too tight and possible cut the ribbon?

oh and silly me, the readme that comes with the update tells you you just need to disconnect the power to the wii before updating if it's already installed. They should really make information like that available on the website instead of buried within a firmware release.

ggbarnum: could you possibly post some pictures of your setup?

It doesn't stop you using the USB ports, it comes out just above the port as you can dort of see in the pic. Not much to look at :)

I have an ARGON which updates the same as D2Pro and my flat cable comes out the GameCube port.

It is out of site tucked under the flap. Unless of course you have a Game Cube Memory Card inserted, even then all you need to do is tuck it down on the side.
