3.0u is where i am at on firmware and 3.3 games i hear will kill the chip so how do i take the updates out of my back ups

You look at the threads at the top of this forum that say "read 1st" and "read 2nd" and follow the guides as you require.

I have yet heard of the 3.3 firmware disabling Modchips. It disables Trucha Signed disc but should not effect the Modchip.
