I have d2ckey installed on my wii.

Burned 'Wii Play','Rayman', 'Call of Duty3', 'Mario Sonic Olymics' DVDs are working fine. However, when I tried 'Mario Galaxy','Mario Kart', 'Lego Indiana Jones', they shows up in the main menu. When I click it, the start pages also shows up fine. Then if I click 'start', the screen turns black and dvd rom spins a little bit then stops and then return to main menu again.

Here are my questions..

It it possible that the modchip installation is faulty?

I have 3.3u. Can this be the issue?

Best,

Okay, then does anyone heard about a case where some backups are working and some backups are NOT working due to fault instatllation of the modchip?

Yes, I did. When I put the Mario Kart, it asked about updating and I did. I saw d2ckey users saying that they do not have problem with 3.3u, so i did update.

I don't think it's your modchip. On the next page over is a lot of people talking about the "3.3 Firmware Update" several said the have D2Ckey.

I'm a UK Wii owner with a D2C edition Wii and a D2Ckey, currently on firmware 3.3e. The online firmware update did not affect any of my installed VC games, homebrew channel, WAD installer channel or Wiiare games.

I've just downloaded and burnt a SSBM DVD5 PAL version (so all should work sweet with the invincible D2Ckey), but it doesn't work, giving the new error message given elsewhere on these forums if you boot the Wii with the game in, telling you to remove the disc and restart the console, or if you try and launch it from the disc channel you get a similar message.

I've never run NTSC-PAL patched games so I know thee's no bricking, and other scrubbed+Trucha signed games still work fine so I'm not sure what the hell it is exactly causing the error, but I can be sure it's the 3.3e update causing the problems.

So I hope that clears that up for other PAL users.

That's irrelevant, Mario Kart does not contaion the 3.3 update.

Thanks for all the tips. Yesterday, I have got the SSBB full dvd9 version burned and tested. It still gives me the same issue.

My unit reads the DVD and SSBB channel shows up in the main menu. Then when i click it, I get to the start menu ([wii menu] [Start]) fine. If I click [Start], drive turns and the all four LEDs on the Wii controller blink a few times. For working titles, this LED blinking does not happen. Then it returns to the main menu.

The difference between other people with similar issue is that I do not get any error message, eject request nor physical problem. I just get kicked out to the main menu...

I am curious if the authenticity checking for some of the titles(Mario Kark, SSBB, etc) are using extra signal lines compared to other titles that are working.

If I put it in the other way, I wonder if there are bad connections in the modchip installation that are used only for those non-working titles.

If that is the case and if i can figure out which pins are those, I will try to check it.

FYI,

Working titles include Zelda, Call of Duty, Rayman, Mario&Sonic Olympic, Bully, WarioWare, Rock Star Table Tennis..

Non-working titles - Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, SSBB, Lego Indiana Jones, so far

When I do not get any progress this, I will have to tear my wii open again and check the connectiviy at least or just pretend I am happy with the titles that are working for me.

Thanks for all your comments!

Well, one thing that just came to my mind...

I did connect point 'L' but did not close any jumpers for the region free option. Could this be the issue?

Well, there is no diffrence even after I downgrade my Wii to 3.2u.

Here is my question again. Please shed some light if you have any thought.

I have d1a Wii with d2ckey installed. Most of the backups are working. However, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, SSBB gives 001 error.

Is this my installation of d2ckey, or ISO, or d2ckey itself?

D1A ?, I guess you mean D2C by that.

The D2Ckey should happily work with those games without giving the 001 error so are you sure you have a D2Ckey and not a wiikey ?

Unless you can verify the burns on another modded Wii, I would lean towards bad burns/media.

I have a Wiikey, and 100% of the time that I have a problem with the disc it's the burn. I use a Pioneer writer and Verbatim DVD-R media and so far have had only 2 bad burns out of 100+. With Memorex I ran about 3-5% bad burns.

I don't try to run out of region stuff or do anything else fancy.

I backup my own discs, so I'm always sure that the .iso source is good.

On the occasion instance when I am using an .iso that I didn't create, if my first burn doesn't work, I try one more burn. If that doesn't work (this has only occurred once) I chalk it up to a bad .iso.

On occasion, I have had to power down the Wii and start the DVD from scratch. Call it superstition, but this usually works where nothing else does if the burn is good. I believe that the modchip may get into a "confused state" and needs to be power cleared.

ggbarnum: I am sure mine is D1A which is D2C variant. So what do think if some of backups are not working but most of the backups are working?

dailum: Thanks for your 2 cents. I am glad that things are working for you. As I have tried to burn them several timess on verbatim-R using Pioneer burner, I know there is no problem with media or burner. So if it is not the installation, I guess something went wrong in the process of making .iso.

I as well am having the exact same issue described. Almost all games work fine, including those you have listed. Most new games including MK Smash Bros etc are detected just fine, go to the page where I can select start and them the dvd whirls for a second and then a flash of black with the tv channels in grey, then bam, out to the main menu. I am positive it is not the media as these disks work just fine in another wii. The latest disk that did not work was WiiFit original. This is the first original disk that gave the same behavior.

Extremely odd. I am also thinking that one of the zillion wires on the d2ckey was soldered incorrectly. As you have guessed, one that is only used with the newest of games.

Hopefully someone smart can come up with an answer!

Majormojo, thanks for sharing your experience. I was not able to check if the problematic backups would work on other chipped wii or not. However, now that I have tried to burn several different isos which is known to be working and failed to make things work, I am leaning towards the d2ckey itself for the source of the problem.

By the way, what is the version of your Wii? After some web surfing and gathering pieces of information from here and there, I started to suspect that the D1A version, which is my wii version, is not fully supported by d2ckey contrary to the claim given in the d2ckey official web site.

I am planning to upgrade to a d2pro9. I will post the result after my experimentation.

Thank everyone, I have resolved my problem finally.

I was planning to order d2pro tomorrow. However, I have this urge to check things again somehow and woke up and opened up my Wii at 2 am.

While I was checking all the connectivities and possible bridges, I found out that there is no resistance between the pin 3 and pin 4!!!
So I carefully examined and there was a fine line of extra solder connecting lead 3 and 4. So I removed it.

Still not sure that could have been the source of the problem, I tried my Mario Galaxy backup title and WAH-LAH! IT IS WORKING! I tried other non-working titles and they are all playing!!!
So d2ckey DOES work on D1A version as they have claimed.

Majormojo! As you have same symptom as mine, why don't you double check the soldering, espacially the pins 2,3,4 and 5.

What stil amazes me is how other titles have been working with the pin 3 and pin 4 fused...

Success as well!
There was indeed a bridge between 3 and 4. What are the chances that both of us had the exact same screw up with all those potential bridge points!
Thank you for being the inspiration I need to open the thing up and take a look around.
Cheers,
m

Way to go, Majormojo!!!

I also cannot believe that we had exactly same problem. I started this thread after all the frustration. However, I am so glad I resolved the issue and I was even able to help somebody.

Hope this thread can be of help to those with the same symptom...

Happy d2ckeying!!!
