iXtreme 1.4 firmware and iPrep??? What's that? Help Explain

So i am needing to flash my new drive for my 360. very confused here because ppl have been telling me things like using iPrep and then a firware. i need help from someone who understands all this to tell me how these work together, so that i can put in the pieces of this puzzle. So the question is, what does iPrep do and what do i do with the firware? please help explain :-)

Iprep is one of the tools you can use to flash the firmware of your Xbox 360 Drive. The firmware has to be downloaded(iXtreme 1.4 torrent site or whatever) then you use Iprep to make a boot disc out of either a floppy or a USB drive.

This site explains in detail how to flash your drive using Iprep.
