Hi, i just got my flash drive, do i have to do anything to it before i do the iprep thing. ie format or just do the iprep.

Iprep will format it for you.

Are you certain that your pc supports booting from a usb flash drive?

It says in my bios boot from usb-zip and usb-fdd if thats good, which one would i use?

I'm not certain about which one.
If I had to guess I would pick the usb-fdd.

If you pick the wrong one you can always reboot and pick the correct one.

Also iprep imho is pretty forgiving. It seemed to me like it wouldn't let me do anything unless it was the correct thing to do. Anytime there was an error it wasn't something that couldn't be fixed and tried again.

The only part that really got/scared me was at the very end of flashing the dvd drive with the hacked firmware is reads don't reboot your pc until it says it's safe to do so. Then a line of text came up that read "reboot pc" but I still heard the the drive working so I left it alone and a minute later it said it was done and it was safe to reboot my pc. I thought "f" me sideways that could have been bad. I thought I would pass that along because it almost tripped me up and it's kinda funny to think back on it now.

Thanks, got it working. Flashing Benq tomorrow with iprep 0.0.7.1. Have you ever used this?

I've only used it, iprep, on Sammys but I would imagine it's exactly the same only you make sure you use the BenQ firmware.
I know when I started looking into this I had the question of which speed to flash, ie 8x, 12x etc. from what I read and have seen since I would recommend 12x. I'm pretty sure that is what speed the original firmware is also.

I use iPrep version 6 since 7.1 and up are still in beta,but I don't know its really up to you.I can't really help out on the usb method since I use the NTFS4DOS method instead,but I would say take your time and don't try to rush through the process like CopperKid said.If the guide states what should happen then follow exactly what it says.

Ok thanks guys going to try and flash my first Benq drive soon... Bit nervous.. lol. Do i need an original game or dvd in console?

No I'm pretty certain that having any media in the drive will mess you up. I tried flashing one last night that the guy left a DBZ game in and it messed up the process. Once I took the game out the dvd drive flashed flawlessly.
