I have my back up of half life 2 ready to be tested, my 360 reads it as half life 2 but when i play it i get the original xbox logo and then a an error message saying X:5829:0 B:1884.0

Any idea what i'm supposed to do?

My guess is that I have to connect to the internet and download an update, but half life 2 is supposed to be BC since the launch of 360.

Is it possible that this is not half life 2 for the xbox 360?

I know for a fact that it is for the original xbox, but isn't it bc (backwards compatible).

I used a verbatim dvd+r single layer. If I was to use the one would give me would I have to use DL.

If you are ixtreme 1.4 it's not a BC problem. The problem is your Xbox back isn't ixtreme compatible. I've explained this few times here, but here's the most recent thread. It's active today.
