Apple has just issued their financial report for the quarter that runs through the end of June - the 3rd fiscal quarter for the company - and it's a record setter. Revenue is up 38% from the same quarter last year and 40% for January through June of 2008 comared to 2007.

Their pc market share was always going to rise when the only off the shelf alternative is drm riddled fista machines.
I can see the scenario, and watched a similar one last week in PC World when I was after some clearance junk (as usual with me)
customer: "I want to buy a new desktop pc, my old one can't be upgraded any more and it runs xp"
shop monkey: "Well have a look at these quad cores, 4 gigs of ram and pre installed with windows vista"
customer: "But I don't want fista, I have checked and it isn't compatible with the software I need to run for work.. can't I buy that machine with XP on it?"
shop monkey: "Oh no.. we only sell that model with vista"
customer: "Then can I buy it without a drive and fit my own. I own a perfectly good copy of XP and I can install it myself"
shop monkey: "No you have to have vista, it comes in the price as part of the package"
customer: "Forget it.. How much is a Mac?"
I gave the guy the thumbs up and a copy of puppy linux as he went past to the mac section ;) Victory is ours !!

lol sorry mate buy Apple isnt much better with DRM!
Cant use MP3s as ringtones on the iPhone (every other new phone can).
cant take music off a ipod without a program (every other mp3 you can).
With the macbook air you have to buy the one cd/dvd drive that works with it and it wont work on anything else.

So dont pretend like Apple are some kind of heroes who are always thinking of the consumer over profit. Infact they are usually worse in certain categories (like the stuff i said above).
Funny thing is, people ignore these facts but if it was Microsoft they would be abused by you Apple suckers.

Lol, and you can still get XP preloaded on new machines. I do it all the time from Dell...
