So I have a NTSC Wii with Wiikey installed and updated to 1.9s. I made backup copies of Okami and Trauma Center: Second Opinion which are both PAL files. My Wii also has the most recent update from Nintendo, which I just downloaded via WiFi.

I have played other PAL backups with no problem, but both Okami and Trauma Center have the "system update" pop up on the game channel when I insert the discs. After reading all the bricking topics, I am very weary of this. Should I perform this update? Will it brick my Wii? If I update it, will it still allow me to play all the other games that previously worked (both NTSC and PAL)?

This has probably been answered already somewhere, but I've done a lot of searching and found a lot of confusing/ambiguous answers.

Read the Ultimate Stickied thread. The answer is there.

I actually read that thread before posting, but it still isn't clear to me.

It seems to me that it's saying as long as both my Wiikey and Wii are as up to date as possible, then it shouldn't brick?

I also did not find an answer as to whether other games will still work if I perform the update.

Its very straight forward.

You should never update with disks out of your own region
Its currently always ok to update from disks within your own region
If your running an out of region backup then use brick blocker on it first.

If your Wii is at the latest firmware then updating out of region will most likely not cause major problems other than adding duplpicate news and forecast channels for that region, but why take the risk, just use brick blocker first.

Threads like this is pointless. You say you don't understand the guide. Everything that ggbarnum stated in the above post is the same as what is stated in the guide.

No, what's pointless is you coming down on people for not understanding. Read my title-- "Newbie." I've posted twice on this site, and both times it was only after I had done several hours of research on my own.

As I said originally, I found confusing answers, ambiguous answers, outdated answers. I found conflicting answers even. I was just asking if anyone had a straightforward answer to what I was asking, because I was not confident with anything I had found on my own. Thankfully, ggbarnum was kind enough to give me the answer I was looking for without complaining about it.

Sorry I'm not an "Afterdawn Addict." If you don't like the post, then don't waste both of our times responding to it.

I spend tons of time on this site helping out newbies like you.

And for what? You evidently don't appreciate it at all.

As well it is a hand full of newbies that have an attitude like you, that think just because your a newbie everything should be spoonfed to you. It makes me want to say the hell with it and stop offering my knowledge. Evidently it is a waist of time if users do not use the guides that I and others have created for Newbies.

So instead of accusing me of waisting your time stop waisting mine and others and read the guides that are provided for NEWBIES!

I told you where to find the link that included all the info that ggbarnum has given you. I don't know what more I could give.

What's really pointless pas484 is opening the billionth thread on question. The existing thread is there for a reason.
