just as a note for others,
i just did the softmod on my xbox, for the memory card it is common to use a flash drive, my sons had a controller that the 'pins' were all bent up where the controller connected to break away cable, so i spliced a small usb extention cable into it. as for the flash drive i have a SD card reader fron sandisk.
(MobileMate SD+ model:SDDR-103 it does SD, mSD, MMC, RS-MMC, and TF, plus includes a small usb ext cable to use on an old controller for usb connection) with a sandisk 512MB SD card.

i didnt have any problems, worked first time, and this is my first xbox and have only owned it for less then 36hours...

some people have asked what they are planning for their modded xbox, mine is to be used for movie/music in my living room, i was planning on piecing together a pc but when i saw the info on using a xbox, i found a friend of my sons who was selling his old xbox for $20 and jumped on it...

p.s. any typos are my own and my fault (you would think after almost 30 years of computer use i would learn to touch type by now...)
