Hiya,

I just moved to the US for 6 months and bought my European Wii with me. It was purchased in the UK.

I have three pretty straight forward questions.

1) Currently the Wii plays fine but only in black and white on my US TV. A bit of research indicates this is because the TV is NTSC and the Wii PAL. Is there any way I can get the TV to play the games in colour? A differnt lead or and adaptor? Even a firmware update?

2) Should I update the Wii? Currently it is as bought 3.01 version. Will this help or hinder sorting out the above problem.

3) Can I play US bought games on the UK Wii? If so how?

Many thanks. I've trawled these forums but haven't really got my head round how to sort out the problem.

You should be able to buy a dual format TV that will show PAL and NTSC, these are pretty much standard now in the UK.

Updating your wii should not be a problem as long as you make sure you update within your own region, so that means ensuring you use a UK update.

You can play US games on a PAL console if you have your wii chipped or you run them through Gecko RF loader. But your best off chipping your wii, makes things much easier.

Try setting the video settings to 60mhz in system settings.

The 60mhz doesn't seem to make any difference. Not sure it's worth buying a new TV over as the games run fine, just no colour and it's actually surprisingly easy to get used to.

Will try Gecko RF. How do I get the Wii chipped and would this not then cause problems with the update?

You need a tv that is made in PAL or EU. I'm not sure if there's a power adapter for it. PAL uses different electric.
