xbox wont play orignal or copied games + screen gone black & white

My stepson's xbox has stopped working correctly which is stopped loading up copied & orignal games plus the screen has gone black & white.

Im no expert when it comes to the xbox but im guessing the software has gone corrupt on it.

As i dont know that much about them can some1 point me in the right direction to where i can get some up to date soft that i could try installing some how to see if it will start working again

IF you dont think its a software issue can you please tell me what you think it is & how i can get it to start working again

Does the dashboard work fine? If so, its a software problem. Tell him to backup any important files he has to the computer and then reinstall the softmod.
