I have a PSP Phat, 2.60 firmware that IS TA-082 - the one that if you open the UMD thing you can read IC1003 on the motherboard.
I've been searching on several sites for an hour or so now, and I'm completely lost. Can someone help me out here?
I want to install a custom firmware, but I hear that TA-082 motherboards have something on them that brick the PSP if it reads firmware below 2.50 - and I know you need to downgrade to install custom firmware. But I've read in several different places that it's possible to install custom firmware, and in several different places that it is NOT possible to install custom firmware.
Can someone please tell me: if it IS possible to install custom firmware, and how exactly to install the newest custom firmware?
This guide can help you with exactly what you need!
this is a guide that will take u directly from a official firmware to a custom firmware = CFW....i really recommend to do the second thing i am goin show u
or u can upgrade to 2.71 and do a 2.71 TA-082 downgrade to 1.50 and install 3.52 M33-4...and then 3.71....just look at my PSP history on my siggy...i have TA-082 and the only times ive bricked is when i play around carelessly with my psp....xD
here is a link to some a guide i made for 3.52 M33-4 3.52-4 M33 Update
I hope that this helps...i havent made one of this little guides in months...haha but i hope that this helps.....im really sure there is many other ways...to help u with ur problems but these are easy....well the fist guide i gave u is a little more complicated...cause of the battery issue.....but if u decide to take my help.....just talk to me and i'll be willing to help u...;)
Only one more question, and it's about the Service mode battery business.
Do I have to have a modded battery? I've found a few software programs that'll make a JigKick out of a spare battery so it'll boot into service mode - cause I guess I'm supposed to do that.
Honestly, I'm too afraid to go dicking around with it when I don't know what I'm doing. So what do I need to do to install the firmware update itself? Do I need the JigKick/Pandora battery? Total noob, sorry =\
Basically what I'm asking is how exactly do I get the 2.71 EBOOT.PBP to actually update my Firmware? Do I have to have the special battery - or is there some sort of software that'll do the same job for me? Or is there some software that'll install the 2.71 part on its own?
Again, no real clue with what I'm doing. Not sure what to do with the 2.71 firmware file "EBOOT.PBP"... >.>
Okay. I did some poking around, and made some reasonable progress. Mostly with your help.
My firmware is now officially 2.71 - I figured out how to do the update properly. Part of my previous problem was that I needed to reformat the memory stick. The folder tree was all messed up for some reason, which made it hard for me to understand, but it's fixed now.
I successfully installed HEN-D - the homebrew enabler for 2.71, Revision D. I did the business where I open the .tiff file and it goes blue, and finally green on the first run. So HEN-D is in my RAM, Flash, memory, whatever.
Only now I have a problem with the "idstoragechange" and "X.YX Update" programs. Every time I try to run them, my PSP says gives me the error message: "The game could not be started (80020148)"
So I guess I did something wrong with the homebrew enabler? I think I'd be fine doing the downgrade if I could get the programs to work - but that's not happening for me at the moment. Any ideas?
Okay, I was doing the HEN-D part wrong. Apparently it wasn't successful - I keeped trying it until suddenly it rebooted on its own, and I was able to run the downgrade files.
Right now I'm watching my PSP downgrade itself - then I'll use your guide to upgrade to CFW.
I finally got everything finished and it's working fine - capable of running homebrews and everything. It's perfect.
Thank you so much for your help dude, it made things a breeze, once I figured out what the heck I was doing. Only thing I need to do now is upgrade to 3.71 CFW.
Thanks again! I'll stop back by these forums in the future if I ever have any trouble :)
Is 4.01 CFW safe to use? I notice Dark_Alex has 4.something on his site. Dunno if it's compatible with the motherboard I have or not. I'd rather not risk a brick. Should I try to update to that?
