Hello There

My Son has a Wii, and the DVD drive appears to be failing (starting to scratch the discs now)and some games only play occasionally.
Is it possible to connect an External USB Drive and play games via this?

Sorry but no, if your drive is failing the only course of action is to either take apart the wii and clean the laser/re-seat the drive or replace the drive completely.

Keep you chin up ncp. I believe that the homebrew team will make an apps so we can connect a external hard drive that would allow us to run games.
