I'm a newbie and have tried using dvd x copy xpress everything burns good, but when i play the movie in my dvd player it freezes up halfway thru or it gets jerky then freezes up. Other than that its a perfect copy. Any help would be great before i make some coasters. This has happened on all four of my movies Ive tried.
Thanks

redbeard1,

It sounds like a media issue - Head on down to the "DVD's are Us" store and pick up some Name Brand media DVD's. Ritek and Verbatim are good or perhaps Maxell -

You will learn that cheap media isn't cheap in the long run :-)

Hmm, this is interesting. I have had similar problems, but I thought it was related to the DVDs being scratched. I have tried both TDK and Imation media. I also have some Memorex DVD-Rs.

Could this be related to the scratched DVDs, media, or both? I've done the deep analysis with DVD Shrink, but that doesn't really seem to help.

Hi schlar01,

Yes, scratched disc could very well cause the same type of problem. That's why we backup our originals so that the backups get "trashed" not the original.
Radio Shack has a "repair Kit" for the not-too-terribly-messed-up DVD's. You might give them a shot :-)

Thanks for the reply Scuba. I obviously am trying to backup a few of the more scratched DVDs in my collection...I guess it may be too late.

One thing that is really weird is that my Rounders DVD quit working on me about a year ago. It is in perfect condition with little scratching, but just does not play in my DVD player anymore (Sony player, about 4-5 years old). Well, I bought my burner, which then read it successfully, burned it, and the burned copy will play in my Sony DVD player where the original will not. It was one of the $9.99 DVDs at Best Buy and when you look at the bottom, the DVD looks pretty cheap because I can see the Rounders labeling through the bottom of the DVD. I think that is the problem, but it just seems really odd that I can extract and burn a DVD that will not play only to have it play perfectly again.

Bought some Verbatims and backed up League of xtraordinay gentlemen with out a hitch or glitch! I ve got one other queston i noticed on my toshiba 4800 dvd video/audio player that they play fine but on my bedroom toshiba 3750 the dvds play till the DVD BAACK-UP screen comes on then it just locks up and i have to power it down to get the disc out. This happened on the copys that i did on the comp usa discs i will try the verbatim burn tomorrow. Is this possibly a media issue or should i try DVD Shrink instead. Does DVD Shrink offer the same quality as dvd xpress?
Thanks for helpin me out fellas! Saved me alot of money and frustration.

schlar01,

LOL, Now that's what I call a pretty "Thin" excuse :-)

Yea, there Good Guy, try a little heavier media -

Glad you saved "Rounders" good movie that -

"P"

redbeard1,

They say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - the same for Xpress Vs Shrink, most everyone who has tried a comparison with the same film done with both programs can't tell the direrence -

Compression is still compression. Puting the same material in the same space -

I like Shrink better myself, more control, the ability to put the files on your HD so that a week later you can burn another copy without having to dig out the original, no beginning screen (although we can remove that) and for me, the big plus the cost $$$$ Vs $00.00.

Let's hope the media will do better, no compatability issues I take it -

Well good luck - to both of you :-)

"P"

I had the same problem as schlar1. I burned a movie on a new dvd-rw (no scratches) and it started showing hickups after 50 minutes on my dvd-player. The same DVD does also not play well in my computer.

The project was created using dvd-shrink from a dvd-structure created just before that worked fine. I only had to reduce by 97%.
