Hey,

I'm looking at putting a different fan into my flashed 360. Do people think it would make it any likelier to get banned if playing originals on live. I wouldn't think it would, but at the same time I wonder if MS monitors, or can monitor, component power draw.

Let me know what you think.

some people have been banned for swapping out the stock delta fans. microsoft can read the voltages.

if you logged onto LIVE with your flashed drive, you already sent off a log to microsoft. the log contains a list that the system makes when you put in backups or originals.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

hmm.

What about a fan that only draws 5V. That's what the original fans draw right? Or would there still be a problem with variance?

Does MS monitor power draw through the USB ports at all? If not, I can just drop a couple fans in and have them draw from one of the USB ports.

What do you mean about that log? Do you mean that the first time I go onto live it catalogs my hardware?

I thought those banned due to the fan were because they had done the 12v mod?

clumsy me, bhetrick is right, it was for the people doing the 12v mod. if you get the talismoon whisper max, don't use the nitro button.

the log is a list the system makes for every game disc you put in it. the system can determine if the disc is an original or a backup. once you log into live, that list will be sent to microsoft. logging onto live afterwards will give the latest list your system has made.

Ok that's good to hear about the fan then. I guess I will probably get the basic Whisper fan.

cee43ja1: What you said about the log seems contrary to what I have heard elsewhere (including on this board), that your safe(ish) playing originals online, and backups offline, and that it is while backups are being played on live that they get logged.

it's really unknown on how microsoft finds out. a few people have done the originals online/backups offline, and still got banned. even properly stealth patched backups got banned. HERE is bhetrick's thread on LIVE and backups.

there is no guaranteed safe way to play backups on LIVE. a virgin, never opened 360 and originals is the only way to guarantee LIVE, unless you do something stupid while on LIVE.

LOL i think people get banned from stupidity when replacing their stock fan. It probably has nothing to do with MS logging power usage. I'm guessing that it's someone that powers on their xbox and forgets to plug in the dvd drive because they're so excited to see their fan light up.

llamma.com's xclamp tutorial warns people of this when overheating the gpu after the doing the xclamp replacement.

Quote:
Now your ready to complete the fix. Reconnect your power button assembly/wireless board. Plug your fan back in but do not reinstall it in it's original location yet; also DO NOT put your fan shroud back in yet. Connect your DVD drive so as to not get banned from Live for powering up your box without the drive connected. Now with your Xbox basically re-assembled except for the fan shroud, plug your power and video cords in and proceed.
So if you seriously beleive MS is logging your power usage i think you have some mental issues. I've had the whisper max on my elite for over 4 months and it has never had any problems, i've never recieved warnings or anything of the sort. Use common sense when modding or let someone with more common sense do it for you.

I don't know if MS does or not (thus my question), but its not crazy. And it even sounds like they might. I know for a fact that I could log power usage, voltages, and variances on my PC. It wouldn't have been to hard for MS to include such capabilities in the motherboard. I just didn't know if the community has seen MS banning people on this. There are a lot of other obscure things that people have figured MS tracks so I don't think it's that crazy.
