What other stores have a no bullshit return policy in case I end up with one of the dreaded lite-on drives?

I'm pretty sure you can return them without much hassle from any big box store as long as you have your receipt. Just check the lot number before you walk out of the store with it so you don't even have to go through with any of that.

Best buy, Circut city, sears, and Kmart have no hassle returns,
Target does not, they have to exchange for same xbox only,

How do they do this? Becuase im sure they wont take it back many times unless its not open. Unless your talking about exchange. O yea and check this list (http://www.360drives.com/list) they have all the dvd drives listed in each xbox so you dont have to buy it to know whats in it. Just check the number through the box :)

I bought a 360 from Gamestop recently and opted on there additional air cheese (in house warrenty) so i could not have to deal with MS. anyone have any idea about Gamestop. I havnt had to attempt anything with them.

This is probably an obvious thing I am missing, but check what number through the box? On that website http://www.360drives.com/list there is a lot of info. You mean the Lot number? Hm, where on the box can I find that? and how does it tell me which DVD drive the 360 has?

The lot number is on the right side of the the box on a white label with other info and some bar codes. Sort the list on 360drives.com by lot number to look for what lot number has what drive. Basically you want one with a lot number between 750-0816, because EVERY 360 in that lot number range has a falcon motherboard and benq drive.

ok Thanks Memnock, I used the search function on that site with NTSC and Beng drive selected and that seems to have brought up the correct results. Your info of between 750-0816 is really helpful.

Actually, why are you suggesting the beng drive? It looks like the Blaster 360 NE and X360 USB are the things to get and they both take Hitachi drives. But I'm not really sure about that. I need to do more research on this first.

Yeah stores with easy exchanges is what I'm curious about. Just in case I end up with a bad drive I want to be able to exchange it for another 360, no questions asked. The lot numbers are pretty reliable, (thanks for the info on that by the way) but on the off chance I crack it open to flash it and see that damn lite-on, I don't want to have wasted my money.

The Blaster kit is just so you never have to open the 360 again to flash it. However, it's not like you have to flash it all the time. The last firmware update was almost a year ago. Second only pre-0078 Hitachi drives work with it. That means only 360 2 years old or older unless you are doing a drive swap and all that extra effort and expensive simply isn't worth it.

O so the benq drive isnt compatible witht the blaster? They never told me that and i was thinking about buying it for when i flash my xbox.

Well there's a chance you could get into an accident on the way to the store. Anything could happen, but picking those numbers gives you the best chance. That's why I wanted the names of no hassle stores in case I need to exchange.

Heres How To Tell If You Have A Lite-On Drive Or Not
WITHOUT CRACKING THE CASE
Remove your faceplate. There is a hole right below the "XBOX 360" text on your dvd bezel. Use a flash light and if you see white wires then you have a BenQ. If you see yellow wires you have a Lite-on
