Panasonic preparing 40 inch OLED TVs?

article published on 29 July, 2008

According to a report in the Nikkei newspaper, Panasonic is planning to bring a 40-inch OLED display to the market within three years, proving that OLED can be the next generation of HDTVs. The word is that the Japanese company will spend a "several dozen billion yen" to convert its Kyoto semiconductor R&D lab into a full-scale OLED TV factory beginning later this year. Before the 40-inch models hit however, 20-inch prototypes are set to hit the market as early as next spring and should gauge the popularity of OLED. The company also hopes to add another OLED production line in a facility in Himeji while moving 200 top staff onto the project.
Yeah, that should be a good indication as to the popularity of OLED......among people in the market for a 20" TV. I've got a perfect spot in my crawl-space.

But in all seriousness, with 20" LCD's dirt cheap and around for a while now, wouldn't most people interested in that size already have bought one?

Yeah..........and although I'd love to explain (what should be apparent to those 'normal' people out there) the who, what where, when, why and how of marketing and their decision on this to use 20 inchers.....................I'm just NOT going to. Use your head. Put yourself in the position of a CEO and decision maker of a large, cutting edge technology company.

Here's a hint: do you not have the SLIGHTEST desire to get another one OR replace the one you have now with a reasonably priced monitor that just puts LCD to shame?

Get a clue and pose your questions on Disney.com. Maybe it'll throw a curve to the kiddies.

Not really. I recently replaced one that was 6 years old, and with LCD technology getting better since then, I expect to have this longer. But that's just my point of view. Aside from the rude personal attack, you have a good point. Loosen your belt a little man. It's a news article.

Nicely Nicely.. these should be good. I like Panasonic displays, they always look great. I bet we don't get to see them around here tho.. not until they are mainstream retail. Wonder if I can pull a fast one and get one to review... please...
