PSP Firmware Upgrade Question

My friend got a used PSP fat today and it's loaded with 3.80 M33. My question is, how long can he use this version until he's forced to upgrade to play new games?

Also, will games that require newer firmware have the firmware already on the UMD?

how long ... i have no clue. It depends on the game he plays. If he does needs to upgrade just upgrade to a newer custom firmware

Obviously that would be the case. What we're trying to determine is how often that is required. He bought this one pre-modded and wants to mess with it as little as possible. Due to circumstances beyond his control, its possible updating it will be more difficult than usual and wants as little hassle as possible.

Had it been as simple as, "Just upgrade it every time a new upgrade comes out," we wouldn't have bothered posting the question in the first place.

newer games require higher firmware, so if you download a higher firmware game then u need to upgrade.
