Okay first lets get this clear, ues I am a dumb a** noob. No I don't know crap. And yes my questions may be redundant to all you guys, but I still have to ask.

I have a PSP slim with firmware 4.05. I have a guy here locally that can install the cutom firmware 4.01 M33-2 and 1.50 kernel patch for $20 (not a bad deal I thought since a Pandoras Battery is double that and that I would probably completely F-up my PSP if I tried it). I beleive from my readings that this will do exactly what i am looking for which is simply to play PSX games, PSP backups, SNES and N64 games (maybe a few other ones) on my PSP.

My questions are as follows:
1) Is this reverable? If it does not do what I need or screws something up can I reverse the process?
2) I have purchased materials from the Playstation Store which I can download to my memory card, will I still be able to download and use these files or any others I wish to in the future? Will this site "detect" the custom firmware and screw it up?
3) Am I just another big dumb noob or what?

I think that is it for the moment. I just need some kind hearted PSP guru to take me under their wing and lead me in the right directions.

Thanks all........A NOOB!

id buy a pandora and your memory card to do it yourself

its really easy and the pandora is 10.50$ here

i bought this one and it works great
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12472

then follow this guide its realy easy and you wont break your psp if you follow the guide
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313

and then if your psp every gets messed up you can always fix it with the pandora again

and youll be able to mod other people psp for money =D
thats what i did i charge 10$
its a good investment

it is reverse able but youll need the pandora battery and a memory card another reason to buy it yourself if you go to a shop they will most likely charge you

youll be fine using stuff from the psp store
as long as you on the latest custom firmware

Sweet thanks, looks not so tough. Another quick question: I have several differant memory sticks that I use for differant applications (games, movies, music, etc.) do I have to do anything special with these after installing the firmware (reformat them or make them magic memory sticks or ???) or can I just plug em' in and go?

when a memory card is "magiced" it just means it has files written to it so it can install or fix a psp

you could even reformat it and use it again
as a normal card or you could leave it magiced and still use it

what i did

i bought a 512 mb sandisk pro duo and i keep that "magiced' all the time just in case it gets messed up

it was 8.95 with free shipping on amazon.com it works great if you would like to buy one check out the link

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SDMSPD-512...7617219&sr=1-23

but to answer you question no you will not need to do anything special to your memory sticks

you might want to get a bigger memory card for games i have 2 4gbs

most good games are 400mb-1.1gb in size
i have 2 4gbs and i fit 3 1gb games and 1 600gb on 1 card

and on the other i have 10 games 200mb-600mbs in size so
but if you dont mind not having alot of games at once on your card i think a 2gb would be good i travel alot and i dont always have a computer with me to put games on so a 4gb was necessary

so it all depends on preferece have fun good luck

if you run into problems just repost on this post or you can post a new post in the forum

if you post in this thread ill be more likely to see it and can help pretty quickly.

and to find games id google

psp isos

id link you directly but were not allowed to on this forum the most i can tell you is to google pspisos but change the s at the end of isos to a z <<--- ;p hope you catch that

Alright, just got my new PC and am ready to try this custom firmware. Can anyone tell me what is the latest custom firmware for the PSP slim and is it included in the download above or do I need to find it somewhere else?

did the psp come with 4.05 already? if it did, then you can't get custom firmware.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

No it did not come with it. I went online to get a couple games from the Playstation store and it "upgraded" to that firmware. Now I need to know what CFW I can put on it so as I can do all the things I mentioned above. It looks like the latest CFW is 4.01 M33-2, is this correct?

4.01 M33-2 is the newest CFW, and can be applied using DC7.

You will need a Pandora Battery though, if not you will need a PC based Installer. Which you could get HERE.

Making the Battery is going to be the hard part as i bet the slim you have will not be able to soft mod the battery. Only one version of the slim PSP can, TA-085 and that came with OFW 3.60

Okay heres the scoop: I followed the thread to the T of how to make the magic memory stick. Did everything I was supposed to. I bought (did not make my own mind you) a TOOL battery as suggested above from Dealextreme installed the files where I was supposed on the memory card. BUT, when I put the memory stick in and then the tool battery nothing happens, the screen stays blank. I can't turn power on, off nothing. My power button stays green, but nothing is happening. Any ideas at this time? Remember I have a PSP slim (bought when the first came out) with FW version 4.05. Any help please. I really want to get this working. Thanks all.

SUCCESS!!!!

had to instal everything manually as the above wouldn't work for my PSP, but as I read it doesn't always. Thanks all that helped. Now I am off to learn about Emulators and Roms.!!!!!!!!

Sorry I don't have one to sell. Pretty easy to make though, you should just do that.
