Help connecting on live with ICS

I am having problems connecting my laptop to my xbox via ICS. i have a d-link so my gateway address is 192.168.0.1. But it turned out i couldnt use ICS with that address because the LAN line already assigned that address. So i changed my gateway address to 192.168.1.1 so then i was able to enable ICS on my laptop. But when i try to test my connection the ip address still fails. Iv read most guides and they say once u get ICS connected it should connect to live but im still having problems. Can anyone help? thanks.
