Hi I modded my D2C2 NTSC Wii with d2pro9 v2 and it works fine with NTSC Sony dvd+r's 4x written. I just grabbed a PAL iso and it won't read it. I see the title in the menu but when I run it the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I did some reading later and found out that "After installation, simply load an ORIGINAL OWN REGION game disc straight away and region free will then function properly."

I've updated to soft v1.5 since then, put in Mario Carts (bought) then a PAL burned game but no luck. Did I do something wrong? I was under the impression that d2pro9 is region free. Although I've read articles that no mod chip is region free, most of those threads see pretty old. My ebay'd Wii console didn't come with Wii Sports so I don't have a packaged disc - although I don't think that matters.

Sorry if this thread is dup. I've searched threads but all were about people asking if the chip is region free. No one addressing issues with reading a non-region disc.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot the chip came soldered to a Wii-clip. Not that should matter either.

The chip will play multi region games but your system will brick if you update with a game from another region. For best results you need to have a wii with the lowest possible firmware version. the lowest i have read about is 3.1u, and with every update the chips have less and less compatibility with certin games ( mario karts, ssmb, mario galaxy). I beleive that my wii came with firmware v 3.2u and i was silly and updated before i installed the chip. So i have never got to play a backup of mario karts or the others. rule of thumb ever update your firmware, always covert the region of the game to your region code and run wii brick blocker. i also have problems with the drive after a cold boot of the system ( takes around 1 min to load the game ). I have not read any good things about the dvd utility disk for the chip either.
hope this helps

First off you will not necessarily brick your Wii if you update with an import game. Yes it is best to not update with a import game but if your Wii is updated to the latest firmware you should not get a brick. Ways to avoid a brick is updating Wii to latest firmware and use Wii Brick Blocker.

As for Wii updates blocking Modchips from playing backups. If you have an unpatched backup of a game and the modchip is updated to latest stable firmware then there should be no issue playing the game no matter what Wii firmware is installed on the Wii. If your having issues with a backup and the Modchip is updated to latest firmware and your at 3.3 Wii firmware then most likely your issue is the backup has been signed with a trucha exploit which is blocking the backup from running.

@rtab

As for your issue with the Import not playing. Time and time again users ask a question but fall short on giving ample enough information that would be helpful to those that answer these questions.

What is the title of the PAL backup?

What firmware is installed on the Wii?

Has the backup ISO been patched with any trucha signed application?

No it would be the user or uploader if you have downloaded the backup.

You need to do a little more reading up on the Wii scene if you don't know what trucha signed disc are.

sorry for being ignorant but why would some 1 sign it with that if every 1 is having problems running the game? perhaps its a prerequisite for scrubbing the game? do u think all of the new games are going to have this type of signature?

Most gownloaded games will not be trucha signed. Just a posibility to look out for.
