my buddies did the same thing, i will ask him what he did to fix it, if it is grinding i doubt it is the laser as you said in the other post. try to stick with this post and i will see if i can help you in fixing it.

yes but when you are diganosing a problem we have to be specific, dont leave out details. why was the drive apart in the first place? and i still cant see it being a laser if it is as you said in your other post "grinding"

well the laser starts moving up and down really fast like its grinding and then i get a black screen and unplayable disc this only happens with the verbatims i bought at best buy a few days ago but sometimes on my other games that work i have to eject the tray 5 or 6 times before it will read the game

my friend i am afraid i cannot help you. i dont want to work on something thats alreay been worked on. the reasons that drive dosnt work are starting to stack up like pancakes on sunday morning. you should probablly invest in a new one.

I will have to chime in and agree with homesick here, sounds like you fubar'ed the laser a bit. Hopefully it was not working well when you took it apart because i can see no other reason to mess with it doing a pot tweek, that is usually something that people do when it will not read discs.

You can get a replacement for it fairly cheap if you do not want to replace the whole drive, and think you can install it yourself. Or just send it somewhere REPUTABLE and have the laser replaced.

here is an example, i have never bought from this site so do your reserch first. But it is under $30 for just a laser.
