How much is possible to compress a movie and still have a pretty good picture in order to fit more more than 1 movie on a dvd.

Thanks,

Jim

I`m new to this myself but i think it depends on the movie as well as a few other things. I was having problems with putting films on blank DVDs with my new NEC 1300a, and so while messing about using DVD Shrink i got a movie down to 700 meg from around 1 and a half Gig and got it to fit on a CD-R thus turning it into a miniDVD. I got a shock when i put it into my CyberHome 400 DVD player because the film came out ok. Most of the time though i wouldnt recomend this because the copy comes out a load of rubbish. But what i am saying is some films seem to shrink better than others.

jlm1,

Use DVD2One in the "Join" mode.

Extremely rarely is a DVD 1 and 1/2GB. I've done over 450 backups and haven't found my first one yet.

BTW, Welcome to the Club

I have a few but most are just over that size. Like i said i wanted to know how good DVD Shrink was thats all. Should be normal to get 3 maybe 4 films on a disk. I have some with 5 on that are very good qulity. Thats if the film can take being Shrunk that much though.

you can reauthor with DVD Shrink and you can fit about 6 hours, but any more than 4 hours and there is noticeable quality loss.

TMPGEnc DVD Author is what I have used so far and it is very very easy. Now it is a basic menu but that is all I am looking for. Learning things one step at a time. The other programs seem a little more complicated if you want to get creative. Which I personally don't.

pcshateme,

I would say that you hit that right smack, dab on the button.

markc,

FYI, and I have no problems naming names, I shrunk
Bruce Almighty down to 845MB using Shrink, just the movie, nothing but the movie -

Using DVD2One, movies only, you can fit 3, DVD-9 movies on a DVD - and again, movies only, 4 DVD-5 will go on a single DVD.

jlm1,

You are on the right track if you want basic menus. TMEGEnv Re-Author does a great job.

Guys, you might want to hang in there for a bit - 321 Studios is releasing this Spring (either April or May) their DVD XCopy Vault, they advertise that they can put 5 movies (no mention of size) on a single DVD "suitable for taking on the road" without "risking" your DVD collection at home -

(Maybe they heard you fellows talking, Maybe ??)
