Hitachi v79 unlock tool
>> A method is released from one of our members on how to unlock the Hitachi v79 in order to dump and flash with fwtoolbox...
Turorial:
1. Unrar the file
2. Burn the CD Image, I used ImgBurn....
3. Put 79 in Mode B
3. Insert the CD in the 79 and play the track, wait for it to finish...
4. Then press play again and straight away pause it, you should hear some noise
5. Eject the disk, using the eject button not the PC ( it does something different)
6. Run the the command in a command window
79Unlock h
// where h is the drive letter of the 79
7. If all went well bit 4 of (0x5BD) should be set and the drive should be unlocked
8. Drive will dump and flash with Toolbox...
9. This is a tempory unlock, (0x5BD) is in RAM and would need to be done each time you power the drive, although I've posted how to by pass this with the drive unlocked with a passkey.....
10. Has not been extensively tested but worked on 6 drives to day so far...

what i dont understand is it syas you have to do if everytime you use the drive, does that mean everytime i turn it on to play it i have to hack it? also, does this mean if infact we dont have to unloack it everytime we use it, that we could use this unlock and swap a drive? i have a buddy who has been waiting on this day to come.

From what I read over at x-s they don't mean you have to unlock it and reflash it every time you want to play with it just when you need to update the hacked fw.
It was pretty confusing in the original article but it was clarified in the later posts.

I remember this it came out 2-3 days ago.Now I can finally flash my v79 drive.I got confused too for a sec when it said its a temporary unlock.It means that if you want to reflash/restore,youre going to have to follow this specific procedeure but you only do this once to flash just like all other drives.someone finally came out with a softmod.

Ur joking right you run a wav file and a program and it works like a 78 flash. I never thought Id say this but I gots to get my hands on a 79. If this works ill make alot more money moding =p

yea apparantly the wav file is one of britney spears hot new songs where she talks about shoving her finger down her throat and inducing vomitting roughly 5-6 times a day. it was the only possible way to get the drive to budge :)

So this means their is no current xbox 360 drive that can't be modded is that correct?????? Since Hitachi v79 can be flashed????????

the 79 could already be modded, just took a chip then you could flash it. however, the new lite-on drive still cannot be modded.

hopefully C4E will do it soon though that will be sweet....

hi
i will flash my drive 79fl to but when i use slax and start windows up my drive is open when i close it the drive comes automaticly out.
close-open what can i do.

Try what I tried, I put in the CD with the 79Unlock WAV file...then pushed the eject/close button on the 360 once (it didnt close)...then I pushed in the drive with my hand...that worked for me. Did the same when I had to put in the retail DVD/Game to do the firmware dump and flash...give it a try and let me know if that works for you.
