I don't know what the "3 UK Unlocking Server" is but they have refunded my money and say they can't unlock it because my phone is not in the database... they claim that despite having refunded my money if the unlock code comes through they will give it to me. So I'm back to square one :(

same goes for me. They've refunded me stating they haven't received it from the unlocking server and that if they ever receive it, they will send it for free. Back to square one

Finally got it unlocked. Took it to a place in Chinatown left it there for a couple of days. They said they would use the DM3 machine. I suppose they did, but I'd have no way of knowing. All seems to be cool tho.

DM3 is a device that can unlock your Nokia without dismantling a phone.

Just received my unlock code from 3. After more than 2 months waiting for it, they finally had it - punched in the numbers and it was unlocked - had to pay 15 pounds though.

Only just £15? They said to me that I need to pay full contract charge (18 months) + those £15...

Try calling the Network it's locked too for the unlock code. Tell them you need it to use abroad and that you bought it new. They should not charge more than £15.

Just bought the e71 simfree from 3, phoned customer services for unlock code (cost me £15), got it straight away. The going abroad trick to get the unlock code for free only works with a contract i was told.
Then used the phoenix 2008 software mentioned on the first page to flash the e71, worked like a charm :)
p.s. thanks for the software

Don't think you bought the phone simfree or you wouldn't have needed to unlock it.

Hi All
I just rang 3 and had my phone unlocked - here is the code they gave me to unlock my nokia e71 - #pw+018790155656976+1# - not to sure if it works on all nokia e71's but you can give it a go - btw I'm located in Australia.
Good luck hope it works.

Got a big 'Not Allowed!' sign after entering that code. Oh well. At least 3 seem to have reduced there unlock price from £20 to £15. I found out they also block the Internet call port on their phones so you cannot use the SIP feature to make an Internet call (voip). To get round this however just install fring or octrotalk (.com).

Hi, I bought my E71 from 3 in Sydney. I'm in Singapore now, and am unable to use my local sim card here. I keyed in the code you printed here but it says "code error". Can I confirm with you if the code you printed in this forum is correct? Sorry to trouble you, and thanks a million!
Cheers,

I may be wrong but I think the number is associated with the particular phone. Some time I had 2 Sony Ericsson P910's and was given the unlock code for one of them.. It didn't work on both.
I assume it is the same for a Nokia E71. I also am with 3 and also was told that they would unlock it for £15 + the rest of the money owed on my contract (which is about 10 months worth) but if I did and continued to use 3 until the contract run out, I would only have to pay for excess usage to my plan. That way they could keep me with them without me losing any money by going to a different provider.. I told them to stick it!. Having a free customer service is fine but I find it difficult to understand what is being said most of the time plus because my signal is so bad I have to call them on my home phone and get them to call me back

Well it would seem that the E71 can now be unlocked. I live in Manchester, UK and there are at least two shops here that can do it over the counter for about £25. They can also now unlock the iPhone 3G for £40. This begs the question..if they can do it why can't we? Anyone else have any more news?

The mobile shop in the market area of the Arndale Centre and the mobile shop at the back of the newsagents on the north side of Piccaddilly Gardens. Both are charging £25.
