I bought my wii japanese and I have one of the first version of the wiikey. I did not catch up with the update with wiikey. Do you think I should change a newer wiikey version or just keep with my old wiikey? because some game I still can not play with my mod wii japanese.

If you have the old wiikey which cannot be updated then you will not be able to play any newer games, so its up to you. Be happy playing old games or get a new mod chip.

How I would know what it is the version of my mod chip? if it is old or new?

To be sure you could have to take your wii apart and have a look. You could try running a wiikey config disk, if it works then you can update, if you can't then its an older version and probably needs replacing.

You could install the homebrew channel and load newer games with the region free loader. That should work for all games except a dual layer copy Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It's either that or get a newer chip installed.
