Ive looked on the internet for a guide that might explain the beginning of hacking the psp. This is what I need. You got a new psp from whereever you bought it from and you want to hack it to play back ups of games that you own. Then the guide would say, you need these things and these tools. Then it would go in to explain how to do what with what you have. Can someone provide me with the link to a how to starters guide? I dont care what it involves, Ive soldered mod chips to my wii, 360 and ps2, so that is no problem. I would prefer a soft mod though.

ok, here is some terminology and usefull information for your psp haxing quest:

ofw: official firmware (made by sony)

cfw: custom firmware (made by haxers...latest underdogs are m33 team..a well known programmer in m33 team is Dark_Alex.His website that includes all of his cfw/psp softmods can be found here)

latest cfw: 4.01m33-2

latest ofw: 4.05

MMS: magic memory stick - used in conjunction with pandora's battery to downgrade/unbrick any psp

Pandora battery: hacked battery used in conjuncion with MMS to downgrade/unbrick any psp

homebrew: software such as games, applications, utilities, loaders to be used on haxed psp.

First of all you should find whar firmware you are in...you can find this by going in the system setings in your psp...Then know what cfw you want to go to...latest is 4.01m33-2.
To start from the beginning, try and have your ofw at 1.50. (if you have cfw the its ok)
Upgrade to 3.52m33 then to 3.52m33-4
From there you can upgrade to any cfw...

you can go here or here for psp downloads...
Go here
for a more detailed starter's explanation...

Guides on how to upgrade are usually within the downloads in a 'readme.txt' file...

m' kay..
