This is really got me stumped. I tried to decrypt 5 movies last night and 3 out of the 5, when I put them in my Lite-on jLns xj-hd1665 Lite-on dvd player it immmediatly locked up my computer! The other 2 worked fine. I tried rebooting between discs and that did not work. The only thing I know I have changed is "upgraded" to windows XP. Never had this problem before?
Windows XP
1800+ AMD
80gig HD
576 Ram
Lite-on JLMS XJ-HD1665 DVD
SONY DRU500A DVDR
DVD DECRYPTER/DVD2ONE/NERO
Might be worth having a look if you need updated drivers for it even though xp probably sees it fine, also might be something to do with the dma settings.
I thought I would check this out through the device manager. I have 3 disc drives (2dvd and 1 cd)This is where it really gets odd. I can open up properties on my sony and hp to see whats goin on but as soon as I hit properties on the in question lite-on, it locks up the computer. I tried deleting it completely and reboot to set it up again but same problem?
Have you got it connected correctly (IDE cable plugged in firmly)?????
Have you got it configured correctly (master/slave), and it is NOT conflicting (the same as the other device on the same IDE cable) with the other IDE devices?????
I would unplug ALL except your HD and Liteon, and see if it is ok on it's own, that way you will know whether it is a hardware problem or software (driver issue) or even conflict problem with the other IDE devices.....
my configuration has not changed. I have had this setup for 6 months with no problems.I am running 4 drives off of ide (hard-drive, dvd-r, floppy,cdr-w) and 1 drive off of pci to ide card (lite on) the problem drive. I have ran this configuration for about 6 months with no problems. It seem like when I loaded windows xp this all started happening. I really appreciate all the feedback, you volunteers problem solvers are really super people .I have checked all the cables they apear to be tight.I will try to unplug all but HD and lite-on and let you know.
I thought I would post this fix and leave it on the thread for a week or two as I finaly figured it out. The problem turned out to be that the pci to ide card drivers were not configured to work with xp.(promise ultra 100 scsi controller). When I downloaded the xp drivers everything works great!! hoooraaa
