I've been through Gateway, Nero, and AverMedia's customer support channels, with no luck as of yet...so I thought I'd turn it over to people who actually know what they're talking about!
I purchased the Gateway GM5478 last year, which includes the AverMedia M791 TV tuner card. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit on it. There is some sort of conflict between the latest Avermedia driver for this tuner card and Nero Vision 4 (whatever the latest version that comes with Nero 7 is). This conflict causes both Nero Vision and Windows DVD Maker, installed as part of Vista Home Premium, to crash.
I've done several clean Windows installations to track down this conflict. On a clean Vista installation, with the latest M791 driver installed but without Nero installed, Windows DVD Maker runs fine. As soon as Nero Vision is installed, Windows DVD Maker crashes after selecting the movies to include on the DVD, and Nero Vision will shut down randomly while editing a movie with no warning whatsoever. If the AverMedia M791 drivers are uninstalled, both Windows DVD Maker and Nero run flawlessly. If the AverMedia M791 drivers are reinstalled, both Windows DVD Maker and Nero Vision run fine, UNTIL the next reboot, then Windows DVD Maker crashes again and Nero Vision randomly shuts down again.
I can easily reproduce this conflict on my system and submit any log files necessary to try to track down and fix this conflict.
I tried going through Gateway support, but Gateway refuses to offer any assistance other than to tell me that I should uninstall Nero. I have also contacted Nero and AverMedia, but have not yet heard any response.
Anybody else experience something similar? Any ideas on what to try to actually fix this issue? I don't feel like uninstalling the AverMedia drivers every time I want to use Nero...and I don't really want to purchase a new tuner card to fix this issue.
