Hi, I am taking apart my 360 because I have the 3 red rings of death. I have watched many tutorials and I decided to try.
I have a newer Xbox 360, it was made in 5-6-2006 according to MFR Date. All of the tutorials I have watched are from 2005 or so and it seems my 360 is a little different.
I can get the first few steps just fine but when it comes to popping the top and bottom pieces of the 360 this is where i get stuck. I can get the top and bottom separated at the front, but when it comes to popping the back side 6 pieces off, I get stuck.
I pop all the pieces off and try to pull it apart, and nothing happens. I looked inside to see where it was stuck and it seems like there is a piece that Microsoft added so that consumers could not get it apart so easily. If anyone could give me some advice to get this piece apart, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!

I have tried everything. I'm telling you, there is a piece that prevents me from opening the case. i popped off every latch with a screw driver and the case does not come apart at all. There are 2 pieces, one on each side of the xbox that are holding the case together.
They look like interlocking clamps. They are plastic, and when I try to separate the case, they just interlock and pull each other together preventing me from taking it apart.
Can someone please help? I can take a picture if this would help...

Are you talking about the tabs on the front where the dvd drive bezel and ring of light are or are you talking about the tabs on the back where the cables and psu plug in?
I'm assuming that you are talking about the tabs on the front. Imo those can be frustrating since once you have the tabs on the back opened up a bit you are putting pressure on those front tabs.
Like it was suggested above I use a small/tiny flat head precision screwdriver and just work those tabs apart one at a time starting at each end and working my way to the center.
Hope that helps some.

ok, so here it is. I took the pictures the best I could.
You will see the white piece that is vertical on the back of the xbox. it is interlocked with another piece which prevents me from pulling it apart. I also cannot bend it as you will see because the piece runs into the metal hardware inside the xbox.
Someone who is smarter than me, please figure this out. Thanks.
SORRY ABOUT THE SIZE, I RESIZED IT LIKE 10 TIMES AND IT NEVER SHRUNK.

Just to let you know, i took bcham's advice and bent it all the way apart and it popped right off! After that, everything was a breeze, thanks a lot BCHAM! Cleaned off my GPU and CPU, threw some washers on the xclamps, slapped some Thermal compound on, and viola! NO MORE RED LIGHTS! Good as new.
Thanks for all the advice.

I bought it because I like to do things the right way and I can afford the $5. I mod 360's and I wouldnt risk a customers xbox 360 bending the case all the way back. Sure it might work but really I mean its $5 bucks to do it the right way.

Eh i have about 5 opening tools and 5 t8 security torx screwdrivers (xcm xbox 360 cases come with them) it really helps out though, especially if you don't want to break anything (aftermarket cases break easily anyway). It's really worth the few dollars they charge if you do more than one xbox. I've seen the prying method done a billion times and i did it with a few xbox's because they were driving me crazy. Sometimes you'll get cases that just don't want to come apart, others will come apart easier than you think.
If your xbox has the rrod again try the penny trick, most 360's i fix i do the penny trick to first and some come back to life without replacing the xclamps.

i agree with these guys, bending the case might work, but i think it is not a smart move. dont believe everything you read man. it seriously woulda took 3 extra minutes to do it the right way. the way it was intended to be taken apart.
