I need some basic information and I have a couple of questions.
I apologize if these are already answered elsewhere, but it seems there is some debate over the issue.

I have a DMS NTSC-US Wii.
I bought a Wiikey (genuine) with a Wiiclip V3 (genuine).

I installed the modchip and nothing worked. SSBB did work, which means the chip wasn't working.

I updated my wii to 3.3u (or w.e the latest is) befoe installing the chip.

Does the update have any effect on the chip or the playing of backup games and the non-official discs?

I'm assuming no, and I have assumed the chip/solderjob/clip to be defective.
But I want to know if it's worth downgrading my wii firmware, opening my wii, and trying the wiikey again.

The 3.3 wii firmware has no effect on your modchip other than meaning you would have to update the wiikey firmware to 1.9s to play a couple of games.
