I just bought a one year gold membership card as a present for my friend yesterday and turns out the back of the card is smered and alot of the code is missing. It was packaged that way. I tried to return it to gamecrazy today and they would not take it back because they claim that I cant prove that I did not activated the code then smered it myself and try to return it.

So I called MS and the rep said that they have no acess to the code database so there is nothing they can do. They told me to try to return it to the stor that I bought it from.....been there done that.

So what am I screwed or what. Is there anything else I can possibly do? Anyone ran into this problem before? I swear to Jebus I have the worst luck.

wow... you mean it was smeared under the scratch off part? I guess it's time to start guessing the code.... The letters should be in caps so it shouldn't be too bad unless it's really smeared. I'm curious how that could get through quality control. It was probably printed and then moved while the ink was still wet.

If i were you i'd guess the code and if that doesn't fly i'd call ms and talk to the higher ups. I've gotten 4 free months of live once just by talking to different people. See if you can send your card into them and have them look at it, i'm sure there's someone there that would deal with random problems like this.

It didnt come with any grey thing to scratch...the code is on the back of the card uncovered...its just smered. About 5 letters/numbers missing. There is no way in hell I can guess 5 random characters right.
