hello, i'm trying to downgrade my official sony 3.73 firmware to 1.50

i've tried several pieces of software such as the Universal Unbricker V3 and DCv4, however when i get to the phase where i need to run the software from the XMB->game->memory card, i always get an error "This game could not be started (80020148)" i've tried google, however to no avail. i have installed 5 pieces of unbrick/downgrade software to no avail. i have also hardmodded my battery successfully.

i'm on an original psp not a slim

to the best of my knowledge...you can't downgrade a psp fat/slim from 3.50 or above down to 1.50 without Pandora.

anything else will not do it, not even the files you are using.
I think the files you are using are based for 1.50 kernels or addons.

Do you have the link where you got your universal downgraders?

You can not run any of the above applications if your on Official firmware. That is why your getting the "game can not be started" error.

The first guide you posted should work if you follow the directions and have properly hardmodded your battery to a service battery.,,

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313

So follow the first part of the guide and use your hardmodded battery to install the custom firmware through service mode (this will install 3.71 M33-2 not 1.50 but there is really no need to downgrade to 1.50).

I see what you were trying to do...
If you modded the battery correctly from the second link you provided off of psp-hacks, you are suppose to make a Pandora Battery which means that you still cannot run anything off of Game Menu until your PSP is flashed to a CFW.
Have you ran the Modded Battery(Pandora) on your PSP yet?
If not, do thi;
Leave Memory card with the files on it if your used the 1st Guide from AfterFawn.
Now apply the Modded battery in the battery slot. It should start right away telling you if you want to flash to 3.71M33.
Press X and run it.
It should flash to 3.71M33.
Did you do all this????
Or did you try and run the files off the memory card under Psp Games?
Remember, if you have not flashed the firmware first, your still sitting on a Official firmware that won't recognize the files from the Afterdawn guide.

i've been trying to run the programs as "games" under my official firmware. this is a labyrinth i'm running into: you need to install pandora's battery app to get custom firmware, you cant run pandoras battery app unless you are under custom firmware, you cannot install custom firmware until you downgrade to 1.50, to downgrade you have to install pandoras battery. however i cant even get to the first stage (downgrading my firmware to 1.50) without running into issues, also i'm not sure when i'm supposed to be using my modded battery or when i can used my PSP plugged in. i'm going to try the AD guide again, if someone can give me a hint to the labyrinth that would be helpful.

This guide HERE will install files to the Memory Stick which in combination with the Hardmodded Battery will boot the PSP via Memory Stick alowing you to flash the PSP to custom firmware.

So do the below steps...

Plug your PSP in via AC Adapter (make sure the hardmodded battery is out).

Now download the files linked in the above guide.

Now follow these steps...

Extract the files by clicking on ONE_STOP_UPDATE.part1 and all files will be extracted into a folder.

Start the Easy installer by clicking on the START Icon in the Easy Instaler folder.

Select Language 1-3 Then press Enter.

Press any key to continue.

Type in your PSP Drive letter. Then press Enter.

Select "1. Continue To Pandora installer" Then press ENTER

Disable the USB and Format your Memory Stick via System Settings. Then enable the USB again. Then press any key to continue.

Press ENTER when it ask to insert new disc (you should already have the Memory Stick in since you just formated it).

It will scan the Memory Stick.

Type Y then ENTER when it ask if your sure you want to format.

Take out the Memory Stick and then disable the USB.

Then insert the Memory Stick and enable the USB again.

Then Press any key to continue

Select Option 4 "Universal unbricker for FAT or SLIM (This installs custom firmware 3.71 M33-2)"

Type 4 and Press ENTER

The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick.

After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.

Press any key to close the DOS box.

You are now done with the Easy Installer.

Now go to the ADD_ON folder that was included with the download above.

Drag the PSP folder and 1.50.PBP to the ROOT of the Memory Stick.

When it ask to over Write choose YES TO ALL.

You can now go to /PSP/GAME folder and delete the despertar_cementerio, pan3xx, ospbt, pandora_battery and pandora_battery% folder because they are not needed.

You are now finished with the Magic Memory Stick part of the guide.

After you do the above unplug the PSP from the AC Adapter.

Make sure the newly created Magic Memory Stick is in the PSP and place the Hardmodded battery into the PSP (Make sure the AC Adapter is not pluged in).

This should make the PSP read from the Memory Stick booting to a black and white screen letting you choose to instal 3.71 M33 firmware.

You will then get a bunch of scrolling text and when it is done installing the firmware it will tell you to turn off the PSP.

Before turning the PSP back on take out the Hardmodded Battery.

Now plug the PSP in via AC Adapter and turn on the PSP.

You should now be at 3.71 M33-2 firmware. Check via system settings/system information/system software.

If you are at 3.71 M33-2 then you have done the steps succsfully. You will need to undo the hardmod on the battery or buy a new one to use your PSP as normal.

You will need to try a different Memory Stick or a different PC till you get that step.

Some users have issues if they are running Vista or XP 64. So if your operating system is 1 of those then you will need to try creating the Magic Memory Stick on a different PC.

You still might need to use a different PC anyway if your not using 1 of the above Operating Systems or try using a different Memory Stick.

Dang dude, you are going into circles...lets start all over.
you have Official firmware on your psp...
You have a modded battery from psp-hacks that converts your battery into a Pandoras battery...
Now the guide that Larry gave you(***without the modded battery in your psp***use ac adapter), follow it cuz its your Magic memory stick.

Once done, put your magic memory stick in psp, now put your Pandora battery in the battery slot without the ac adapter and the psp should be off before applying the modded battery.
Now when you apply the battery, it should turn on the battery by itself and then ask if you wanna flash to 3.71M33.
So the Pandora will flash a official firmware.
Follow the guide from Larry.
Once your at 3.71M33, there is some files that will downgrade to 1.50.
But by getting 3.71M33, there are 1.50 kernel addons for that version.
Its kind of like a patch to make the psp thinks its a 1.50 version.
I hope we haven't lost you.....

ok now i think its starting to make sense. i was under the impression that 3.71MM33 was the custom firmware than i would need to install after i went to 1.50 official firmware, but it looks like i had that backwards. i'll have to try this under a different OS (running Vista).

With a Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery (Hardmodded Battery) there is no need to downgrade to 1.50 anymore. You install stright to custom firmware.

Back in the day with older firmware (before Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery) you would need to downgrade to 1.50 before you could install custom firmware.

Now with Magic Memory Stick + Pandora you can go directly to custom firmware without downgrading before hand.

I reccomend to keep it at a high cfw version with a 1.50 addon.
Its alot better.
But follow Larries guide, its real easy to understand.
by the way, your memory card needs to be at least 512Mb.

well i've got the firmware installed (it took one try on XP). however when i shut it down and stick the battery in (take the power chord off) i'm back to the install custom firmware screen. i shut it down, take the battery out, plug it in and my psp is fine again with custom firmware already installed. so question is, do i have to buy a new battery? if i do buy a new PSP battery will it even work with the custom firmware (with or without hard modding)?

thanks for all the help!

You will either need to undo the hardmod.

Or buy a new battery.

A new battery will work fine in the PSP.
