Hi there,
Can you please let me know thefollowing:
What is the most cpmpatible format for dvd home players, is it dvd-r's or dvd+r's? I have a media presentation that I am burning and I am wanting to know once and for all what media is the most user friendly for people at home to watch? I've been given so much different info from sales guys at my local pc centres and I would like to know what you think.
Look forward to hearing the answer?
Also I know that a glass master is the best option but it's too much to spend for what I am doing, hence I'm burning them myself

The -R format has a slight edge in compatability overall. I wouldn't trust a PC store guy any further than I could throw him :)

Many thanks for your quick and learned reply.
Will it ever be available to be able to burn? my own Glas master? or a format where it can be read on a dvd-r & dvd+r home compatible system?

I think I may have confused you :) When I said "-R" I meant the DVD-R format. It is readily available and can be read in almost all home players. I say 'almost' all home players because there are some persnickety ones out there that don't like to play burned DVDs but most play them fine.

Glass masters are actually pressed and not burned which is why they cost so much to have made.

Hope I was a bit clearer this time :)

Thank you again.
Sorry one more time please. So you would recommend that I stick to burning my own dvds using the DVD-R format as I should have a great sucess rate at these being more compatible on a average persons home dvd player?
(I'm pretty new and wanting to learn as much as I can)
Many thanks in advance.

You got it! DVD-R will give you the best compatibility. One other thing is, be sure to buy quality discs from Ritek, TDK or Fuji. It's tempting to scrimp on discs but the low-quality ones give so many headaches. You end up throwing away your savings in bad burns caused by bad media.

If you buy in quantity you can get outstanding deals on Ritek G04 discs (my favorite) from supermediastore.com or rima.com

Many thanks,
Yes I am using Riteks GO4 and also Verbatims (MCC00RG200), I have a great progammed called DVDINFOPRO which lets me know the code of the dvd and then I can dsee if it has been tested on my DVDRW, I didn't know that Verbatim are really Mitsubishi????.
I did wastre loads of dvd's last week as I had only had my Pc made a few weeks ago and had a BTC dvdrw fitted, after having really bad burning problems and after having another one fitted the guys who made my PC found out that it was a firmware upgrade that was needed. All works fine now.
All the best
