I've recently installed a few D2Pro9 v3 modchips in some NTSC (USA) version consoles and found that random PAL games display the message that an updated is needed. However, all the consoles have 3.3U consolefirmware. The modchips work fine on all NTSC games (OEM/backup) and most PAL games (OEM/Backup). A few PAL games, Wall-E, We Ski, and Metroid Prime all ask for disc updates. Each of these games work however in the console without the update request after Wii Brickblocker is ran on backups of the referenced PAL games. Does anyone know what is going on or if the D2Pro developers are going to offer a DVD udpate blocker like what is found on the WiiKey (1.9v firmware)?
I searched the forums for a similar question, but came up short. I apologize in advance if there is another thread out there that addresses this issue.
You will get the update request due to News/Weather channels.
If you have a NTSC(U) Wii system there is no PAL/NTSC(J) News/Weather channels installed. The backup disc update recognizes this and request an update to install those region News/Weather channels.
If the Wii is updated to latest Wii firmware and you update via Import you should not brick, however you will get duplicated News/Weather channels.
To avoid the duplicated channels you should Wii Brick Block the backup. You should Wii Brick Block all Imports anyway.
Backups that are not Wii Brick Block compatible should be fine to perform the update as long as the Wii has the latest firmware available. But as said above you would get duplicated News/Weather channels. So you need to decide if the Import game is important enough to have duplicated channels.
Thanks for that info. I will have to try that out to see what happens. I agree about running a brickblocker on backups, however, I'm living in Germany and working on consoles for US personnel stationed in Germany, so I have some folks that buy PAL games at local stores, which of course will have updates on the DVDs. However, I will use your advice. Thanks!!
