I am trying to figure out a good wireless router to use with my PS3. I want to make sure I get one that is compatible and one that does not cause any lag when playing games such as SOCOM. I am also wanting one that is not really expensive because I am pretty broke at the moment.
- What is a good brand to purchase?
- What type does it need to be: g, b, n?
- If you know a specific router that works really well please let me know.
Thanks A Lot.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for it but I personally prefer D-link routers they work better out of the box, I've had nothing but trouble with every linksys I've ran into. I've heard good things about netgear routers but have never used one myself.
After getting a N router myself I'd have to say just get a G router, the PS3 only goes up to G and wireless N is a pain because its still in its infancy.
There is only one bad thing about D-link routers, they heat up like crazy and can cause problems if not put in a cool area. What I did is went and found a small cooling rack meant for cookies and put mine on it.

I hear of a lot of people using a D-link. They must be ok. I use a Lynksys WRT54GS. It is ok but you will need to set up port forwarding as shown on this walk through. http://www.pregamelobby.com/forum/sony-r...t-your-ps3.html
As stated above. The PS3 does not recognize N, so it is a waist of $ to buy one.

No need for flaming for personal preference -canuckerz-

Yes its still in its pre-N state but very stable I might add. It really comes down to preference.

Thats false!
I personally use Linksys wrt330n and I have no issues connecting wireless with the PS3. I also made my linksys wrt54g with modified firmware an access point for my PS3 now (like a range expander).

The PS3 will not recognize "N". This is copied from the PS3 manual. Most all N routers utilize G and B also.
Router
Wireless router compatible with 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi standards
Or an Ethernet (wired) router with a Wireless Access Point (WAP)
You may need to open firewall port numbers on your router to connect to the Internet.
The PLAYSTATION 3 will not connect to the Internet through the USB ports.

Yeah I know it shouldn't happen but every time I use to mention d-link in the psp section I'd get waves of people flaming d-link for no good reason.
And yes N itself is stable but drivers for using a desktop adaptor are still sketchy at best. I have problems with my N adaptor all the time. No problems with the N router but the adaptors fight me the whole way along.

Ah, sorry bud, I miss understood as the PS3 is not wireless N compliant. I thought you were saying the PS3 will not connect to a wireless N router.

Agreed! as my wireless N adapter gives me an excellent signal strength but say 27mps.I was getting 107mps before and that signal strength just good...dunno

Well, you have 1 person that suggests D-Link and 2 people suggesting Linksys.
The wrt54g series you can get for around $40 to $50 bucks and the D-link around the same price.

No problem, I am not saying to stay away from N routers as it is a good investment into the future. You may want to get other N compliant equipment. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I've been using the Linksys WRT54G since day one and I have not had any issues with it.

I looked at the specks. The netgear will work with Mac, if you have a Mac and Lynksys wont. Check out the specks to make sure your PC will work with it. Neither one states their range, but with an extender. The Netgear says that it will xmit/receive at 108G but that is Super G which the PS3 does not utilize. The Lynksys works fine for me but the Netgear appears to be more future proof. Either one should work for you depending on your PC. IF you get the Lynksys, Set it up according to the walkthrough on the third post. Good luck.

I've never used a belkin myself but I've seen them around alot. How are they for reliability? And are they common enough to have a cfw like the linksys?
