I am new to the Wii modding scene, although I have modded my PSP and use R4DS for my DS so I am sorry if my question is a bit dumb.

I found a listing for this drive on Ebay and it has a Buy It Now price of £28.99. I was wondering whether this is a reasonable price as I have no knowledge of how much they should be costing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Since the drives are all out of production, it's a seller's market.

What that means is that it's difficult to quantify "reasonable". If it was the last drive left in the world and it was proced at 1000 pounds would you consider that reasonable?

A "reasonable price" is whatever you are willing to pay for it.

Do some comparison shopping and you will be able to determine the nominal price.

Didn't want to waste a new thread for this question.

What is the different between the drives the can read wii and gc discs and the ones that cannot? Is it a fireware, or strictly physical capability?

The way that I understand it, these particular drives have a "hole" in the firmware that can be exploited to read the Wii proprietary format.

Thanks Dialun I did not realise they were out of production. Makes my decision easier now, I guess. Just need to tie up whether I can find someone to solder my console to see if its worth proceeding.

Cheers

Make you wonder why they stopped making them :)

I guess the 1st day they noticed they were used to copy games, they were forced to stop production, since it seems and is no new drives that can copy those games now !

At least the wiikey lets you us the SD-dump capability.
Albeit, that method is less convenient.
