I have an unmodded 360 with a Samsung drive. Recently, immediately after power up the 360, the green flickering light which typically comes on when you are ejecting a disc comes on and the drive is unable to eject. The dashboard comes up and indicates it is "opening", which it seems to give up doing after the first few seconds of boot up. The light is non-stop and there are no "red light" errors. I can manually eject the drive and occasionally when powering off it will pop open, and doesn't seem to have any problem closing, so mechanically it appears functional.
There is very limited info on this problem after much googling, anyone have anything concrete?
The reason you can't find a "real" answer is because it's different for everyone. When I had this problem, I had to reflash the 360 (Samsung drive) and make sure the metal mesh inside the console wasn't pressing down on the dvd drive too hard.
See if you can pull the laser unit apart, clean up any dust inside, put a disc in it (preferably some disc you can afford to lose) and put the case of the drive back together and test it, try ejecting the disc if the tray opens then the magnetics or mechanics of the drive is your problem. Close they tray with the disc still inside. If the drive spins up and reads the disc then you have a temporary workaround (ie leave a disk in the tray at all times).
same as mine before.. your xbox 360 have a broken drive. the gear inside is wore out. i would highly recommend u to buy a new dvd drive from ebay and just swap it with the old one. i am telling u from my experience as it also happened to me before.
after more playing around,when you eject a disc, the laser assembly tray lowers, and raises when the disc is inserted. The laser assembly fails to raise all the way back up now when inserting a disc. Everything appears in order and working, I can't figure out why it is failing to do so. I am, however, able to manually eject the tray and the only way I can get the laser assembly back up when I insert a disc is to manually insert as well. It's not exactly a solution but whoever has a Samsung drive having this problem just needs to manually insert the disc and it works fine.
