Sounds like your wii's serial number is right on the cusp of when they switched from D2B to D2C so wiitracker cant really help you.

Your only option is to open it up and see what it is.

Just get a D2Pro9 V2 which is compatible with all drives from D2C2 and below.

To find what chipset it is look at the top of the black chipset. It will be labeled on top.

I was at wiidrives.com and punched up my serial........here's what I got:

* There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D2C (v1).
* And there is also a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2C2 (v2) and the drive has the new metal clip.
* Lastly, a 25% chance the chipset is GC2-D2E.

any chip that's compatible universally with all 3 sets?

D2Pro9 V3 is supposed to be compatible with all drives. But some have had issues with it on D2C/D2C2 drives.

Your best bet is to open it up and find out for sure. If it is a D2C/D2C2 then get D2Pro9 V2. If it is D2E get D2Pro9 V3.
