If the Olympic Games are for the world to watch, then let everyone watch them. So what if they are on Torrents. It's not like they sell DVD's of the events.

i was thinking exactly the same thing, arnt the olympics spossed to be the pinacle of a world coming together to enjoy a common love of sports, then why not let people watch via download from a torrent site.

I totally agree with u2! These are for EVERYONE! Writers are not loosing any $! I understand that advertisers are not getting some of there advo time but i don't want to stay up till 3 a.m. if i want to watch a game! How can i be stealing something that my taxes help fund?
as a US citizen & tax payer I help[ed sent out teams there! I understand they put there time & energy into there sport but i put my life into my work also that helps support this! They do not get anything more or less my someone watching it over the web, tivo or a download!

Are they afraid that the world might see some real sports on the Pirate Bay? There isn't much to see on the crappy NBC prime time Olympics feeds in the USA. It's a constant deluge of gymnastics beaver shots almost every night. The monotony is broken with synchronized diving. I'm sick of these so-called events that depend entirely upon the opinions of judges.

NBC is hawking a Michael Phelps video by the way.

The real sports are on the alternate cable networks mostly during the overnight hours.

I stopped using torrents all together and switched to giganews with SSL. I couldnt be any happier. $30 bucks a month isnt too much when you rake in alot more selling & you have the piece of mind that no one is watching or snooping on what you download :)

Paying to steal things seems a little too far fetched for me.

Actually they just announced a day or two ago that they are actually selling a DVD recording of the opening events and a few of the more popular events that is going to be released as soon as the full Olympic Games are done with. Who would of know?

You can't sell a public event, the Olypic games are a public event.
Hence the term Public. screw them way to go pirate bay.

In Canada, you can watch the olympics on CBC.ca. Give it a try it's quite good and has much better coverage than NBC. Sorry about the late headsup though.

Yeah, I saw that the day after I posted. I don't feel like that is really NBC's item to sell though. The events were drummed up to represent the world, not make profits for the media company contracted to record it.

they don't, they sell the rights to re-boardcast it.

same deal with concerts etc, they are also public but your not meant to bootleg the music tracks etc.

I have the opening and closing recorded in HD anyway plus some extra stuff, I was thinking of putting some of it onto youtube but the IOC have a seprate channel setup and ban anyone from uploading stuff onto youtube.

I also find it strange but money is the real driving factor not what is being done.

This is it in a nutshell. It was always the intent of NBC to sell the opening ceremonies on DVD. Just as I believe there will shortly be a DVD of the closing ceremonies, too.
