As we all know, unfortunately there isnt really much "modding" or "homebrew" that can be done to the ps3. and since linux is very intimidating to alot of people, most dont venture that way either. so with all that said, i get to the real point of this thread... If there was a mod or hack or whatever you want to call it, if there was one that allowed you to manipulate your ps3 however you wanted,BUT there was a 50% chance of you making your ps3 nothing more than an expensive paper weight. Would you try it?

Must be nice when the parents buy you such an expensive piece of hardware. From a buyer's standpoint I say no. There is no way I would ever do that to my PS3.

hey im going to have to ask you not to come into my threads with hostility,
and i never said my parents bought me anything, i have a job, and pay for most of my own expenses, not that it matters, but they would kill me for taking the gamble and wasting money

Are you hinting at something or have found some kind of mod?
Personally I've got bad luck so I wouldn't do it unless I bought one specifically to try it.

I would take the risk if I knew what I was doing, but you have to know what you are about to do in order to accomplish a hack.It is true you can stumble on a hack without even knowing it,but the chances of that happening for the PS3 are slim to none.I have plenty ideas to try out,but I don't have the spare time like I use to or the money to spend at free will on the supplies I would need.I don't think linux is hard to learn, but it is overwhelming for someone new.I don't think linux can gain access into the hypervisor, which is the starting point to any hack for the PS3.If someone was trying to donate a PS3 in order to accomplish a hack for the PS3 I would decline. If your getting a PS3 for almost nothing then there has to be a catch, just like with everything else.It is going to take a considerable amount of time to get anywhere and a bunch of money for the needed tools. You would need to know programming and decompiling binaries, self files etc...extremely well.I should mention the firmware in the Blu-Ray drive would be my starting point, which I haven't seen yet.

I think I'd try it if it was within reason. e.g.: Flashing a custom firmware for the PSP.
However, I wouldn't just accept if some joker came out with some program and asked me to run it and said it had about a 50% chance of not ruining the only thing I love in life.

no i've just been experimenting... but this is totally a hypothetical, like for instance it worked for me and not for john doe, but then it worked for someone else, would you guys try it?

Then the pirate selling games relabeled Assassins Creed 1 and called it Assassins Creed 2. This is called marketing.
Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.
