Hey guys..

Became the proud owner of a Wiikey today. I also ordered it presoldered onto a Wii-clip, to ensure safety and to make sure I wouldn't screw up the soldering job. My Wii is updated to the lastest firmware, and I had no trouble installing the Wiiclip into place.

The problem is, I can't get any burnt discs to boot. Not the Wiikey setup disc, not the GCOS version of the set up disc, not anything. The Wii works as if I hadn't installed anything at all. I've burn about 15-20 DVD-Rs now, with no luck. I've tried with Memorex AND Sony DVDs to no avail.

I've been working on this all day, and I can't figure out anything for the life of me. Someone, please help. :[

Note:
Both the Wiikey and the Wii-clip are authentic. No clones here. I've checked.

Also, I got my Wii on the release day.. so I have the oldest chipset available. Which I'm hoping is a plus, for me.

maybe a blocker???

Does 3.3 contain a chip blocker...

The reason i ask is users that have had version 3.3 installed with there chips preinstalled and have updated from 3.2 to 3.3 have had really no issues where even my modded wii won't read backups after the straight to 3.3 update

It seems like everywhere I check though, people say to burn the GCOS, boot from that, and then use the Wiikey config CD.

I just don't know what to do if the GCOS itself won't even boot. Very disheartening :[.

So I haven't heard anything about a blocker.. but who knows.

This Wiikey is frustrating me to hell and back. I thought it would be an easy, straightshot installation and I'd be playing backups.

Wrong..

Same thing happened to me. I have a DMS chipset (launch chipset I do believe).

I got a genuine wiikey and clip from a highly suggested seller (modchipcentral.com). Installed it without any problem, but it didn't work at all. SSBB played fine (which means it wasn't working because you need to first update a wiikey before you can play brawl), and nothing burned would play.
It was as if it wasn't there.

I contacted them, and they exchanged it for free (save the $2 shipping I had to pay). I'm still waiting to recieve the new one.

Hopefully this one works, because if it doesn't, then I suspect it's a wii problem that we may need to overcome.

Oh...advice. lol.
Try a genuine copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If it doesn't read, your key is probably working somewhat. If it plays, then your wiikey is not working and it needs to be reseated or replaced.

Good luck and let me know if you find out anything interesting about your situation, as I'm in much the same one ^.^

Thanks for the SSBB tip.. I'm watching Brawl play perfectly on my "modded" Wii right now.

I just contacted the seller not too long ago, asking if I could get a replacement. I bought from a seller on ioffer (who sells plenty of modchips with a 100% positive rating), I'm not sure how eager he'll be to replace my chip.

Hm.. I wonder what the deal is..

I wish I could get my 20 DVD-Rs refunded. Sheesh.

Also, keep me posted on your situation as well. Eager to see how your replacement chip works out for you, or if we're both screwed. I wonder if it has to do with the DMS chipsets..?

If worse comes to worse I'll probably just end up selling my clip/wiikey and buy another chip in it's place.

it may not be the chip, if there was damage to the wii lens, like smoke or even animals. that could be the problem and damage the lens which will make it very hard for it to try to read the copied games. If you need help i know a very reliable person with an aim for fast contact. go to dubsoutlet.com he can help you with all you need.

He can play brawl, so it's definitely the chip (or the clip).

No one has questioned the integrity of his backups.

If original SSBB works, it's a pretty good rule out the mod as being the problem.

I have not read in the post where TC has proven that his backups are good (i.e. run them in another modded system)

Odds are that it isn't, but TC is not using the best quality media either.

There are so many members that have had allot of issues with Wiikey when going to 3.3 even if the Wiikey was installed before or after the 3.3 update.

Seems to me the better road to go down is a D2Pro9. Might be more expensive but at least it should work plus you have an updated Modchip that could be used again if you ever have to get a replacement drive.

Then again it is hard to tell if it is the Modchip or Wii-Clip itself. Would be interesting to see what the outcome would be if you soldered the Modchip directly to the Drive without the Wii-Clip.

That's what makes troubleshooting this so difficult. The update didn't come out but so long ago, and most of the help I turn to is outdated for a new Wiikey user. I've seen plenty of "upgrading your Wiikey to work with 3.3" FAQs, but nothing on installing a Wiikey after the update.

Isn't there some homebrew software I could use to roll back my to before I updated? And shouldn't things be able to install then?

Yeap you can downgrade back to 3.2 read more HERE. I have no idea if it would work for you but you could try.

... I've been had.

I think I know the source of the problem...

I sent my Wii in last November to get my laser fixed. I got it returned back with all of my information stored on it, but I was pretty sure it wasn't the same Wii.

I looked at the chip.. I have a GC2-D2G chip, with (apparently) cut pins.

..erg

D2G or D2B?

First time ever hearing of a B2G drive.

If it is a D2B drive with cut pins then you have a few options...

1) Solder the modchip in manually shaving off the top part of the chipset on the drive reveling the pins that are cut. Then solder to them.

2) Send it into a pro and have them do it.

3) Buy a D2Pro9 with Wii-Clip which uses different soldering points then the Wiikey and will work with your D2B chipset.

Excuse me, meant D2C. I'm looking at alternate methods now..

I'm hoping that my seller will let me exchange it for a D2C pre-soldered to the Wiiclip if I pay the difference.

Wish me luck..

Darn; we are in seperate boats after all.

This is why I want to buy a busted drive on ebay.
That way, if I ever have to send my wii in, I can send it with some random drive and not my baby (dms).

I actually took the dms board out of my gf's wii and traded her my d2c board.

woot.

Sorry :( It was fun while it lasted. It felt good to have someone else going through the same strife I was.

I feel a bit cheated out. My Wii was pre-ordered months before it even came out. I DESERVE my old chipset. Hope all works out with you. :]

As far as I know D2C never had the pins cut.

Anyway your best bet is D2Pro9 V2 (Version 2) with a V4C Wii-Clip.

That way the D2Pro version 2 will be compatible with D2C or D2C2.
