I looked around on the net and found this forum and it seems like its probably the most helpful/responsive one out there that I found.
Recently my Xbox 360 took a dump. It started flashing one green light down in the far right corner and gave a black screen with a bunch of different languages on it. I dont even remember what the code was. I think it was 074 but im not sure. Looking it up online it had something to do with the video card / drive.
It was flashed and had been opened so I knew I couldnt send it in to MS so I took it to my local video game place where he has a guy who fixes stuff. After 2 weeks of having it he told me his repair man told him he couldnt fix it because everything he would do there would be another error come up. He also told him he thought he actually did something to make it do that so he gave me back a perfectly good working 360 thats stock.
I now have a binder of 56 games here and nothing to do with them and as im looking around at options the further I get confused on what I should go with to re-mod my new box.
Is the Xecuter BLASTER the way to go? Im just worried because I never had to mess with anything on my other box as far as switches, updates, cables, etc... once it was flashed it just worked and that was it. It was flashed for 2 years with no problems. I just dont want to have something I always have to mess with and also something that all my games will work with.
Any help is much appreciated as I am kind of new to this because I havent had to do anything with my box in a long time.
Flashing it is really your only choice. The blaster is just for re-flashing, meaning that you do not have to open the case when an update comes out and you want to update your firmware. If your just planning to flash it once and never again then it is a waste of your money.
If you want those back ups to work you have to mode the new console, no way around that.
And a dumb question for you, how trustworthy are these guys? Did you have like a flashed premium or elite console? I have never know a store that would be good enough to just hand over a new console just because they can't fix yours. 98% of them would just hand you back YOUR console and say sorry, can't fix it. Just sounds a bit fishy to me. Because if you had a better console and it was flashed they could have actually fixed it and just kept the better modded console for themselves or to sell for a higher price then they would have gotten for the stock one.
Unless this was the place that modded it in the first place and they just felt bad about selling you a faulty system.
I mean I will flash it as new stuff becomes available thats not a problem. I just never did anything else to it before.
The place is trust worthy and they are giving back the box they messed up as well. The guy who owns the shop ive known for probably 5 years and he's always been a standup guy.
The console they are giving me isnt brand new. Its a reman which is better than nothing I guess. The one I had was a premium and I still have my hard drive so im good.
Do you know how hard this blaster thing is to keep up with such as flashing and what not? The install seems pretty freakin simple so im not too worried about that. I guess I just dont understand how to do all the crap like connect it, what cables to use, how the PC will find the Xbox, etc... I just dont want to make a mistake by buying this thing. I know they offer some USB connection deal for another $50 but I dont quite understand what that does either.
The USB connection is only for one specific Hitachi drive. Every other drive uses SATA and you need a certain chipset for it to work. Look at the very top at the "Ultimate sticky sticky" and there should be plenty of info on how to flash a drive.
As far as the blaster goes the install should be pretty simple, and it will make updating to newer firmware easier as you only have to open your case once to install the blaster and from then on you are set as you will not need to open it again to update firmware when it becomes available. There is another product called Xeno Top Gear so you can compare pricing and buy the cheaper one.
