Hello everyone. I use my PS3 to watch many different types of video files, but lately I've been watching many HD videos. Of course, some of these files are already encoded into AVCHD ISOs, which means I have to burn them to dual layer DVDs, which are expensive. I have also used mkv2vob to make h264 videos compatible with the PS3, which are the files I could play off the HDD.
I want to stop spending so much money on DL DVDs and decided I should buy an external HDD (1TB) but I have some questions:
1. Is there a way of playing AVCHD files (or PS3AVCHD files, to be more specific) off a HDD?
2. Can the PS3 read video files larger than 4GB?
3. Is it true I will not be able to FF or rewind video files that were transcoded with mkv2vob because the sound will be out of sync?
4. Anything else I should think about before buying the 1TB HDD?
Thanks for the help in advance...

I think you should stick with dual layered DVDs. They're not that expensive online. ;)

1. I don't think so, AVCHD is the same thing Blu-ray uses so it has to be burned to a disc.

2. Yeah, but I don't think it will if you stream it. It can read burned DVD-5 or DVD-9 discs though.

3. I think that's only if it's DTS. Use tsMuxer.

4. Yeah, I really would recommend sticking with dual layered DVDs. You save space and you get to keep the movie as long as you want.

Thanks for the quick reply Naruto. But how are DL DVDs going to save space instead of a 1TB HDD? I'll check out tsMuxer because I'm not very familiar with it...

By save space he means you won't have to store your media on a hard drive, which saves room for you to put more media, and then to burn onto more DVDs.

I think, anyway.

That's exactly what I meant. :)
